Notes: Great value from this curious little semi-modular FM synth. Two carriers, two modulators and virtual analogue delay give you plenty of creative power. Ideal for drones, weirdo synth parts and special FX.

Supplier's Notes:
The Mystic is an experimental FM synth with 2 carrier frequencies, 2 modulators, and an analogue-style delay. All of the synth parameters are controllable via cv as well as time control in the delay section.

The Mystic generates colossal waves that swirl, echo, ascend, and plunge into an ever-changing, sonic playground. Transcend reality and let the mystic guide the way!

Powering Tip

The Mystic uses a 9VDC, negative-tip, 200ma power supply. It is a standard Boss-style power supply used for most effects pedals. The power supply is sold separately.

Once plugged in, the Mystic is powered up and ready to go. Simply unplug it from the wall when not in use.

Output: line level

A note about the output level

The Mystic runs at line level, to be used with pedals and other devices that also run at line level. If using with Eurorack, the output level needs to be converted, just as you would with any guitar pedal.

There are several Eurorack modules that do this, but the one Recovery use and recommend is the Strymon AA.1.

Output jack

The Mystic requires a 3.5mm cable to connect the audio output to other devices.

Latching switch

Use this to latch the sound on and off. Up is on, and down is off.

Controls

Carrier frequency controls

Each carrier works together to build a waveform. Usually it's CF2 that responds to pitch tracking, but that can vary depending on the setting. Think of CF1 and CF2 as 2 sign waves being folded in various ways. Sending independent CV into each one will not get traditional 1 v/oct pitch results, but a combination of pitch, texture and tone.

Modulator controls

These are used to shape the tone and texture of the folded waveform you've created with CF1 and CF2. Modulation rate will control the speed of the modulation texture.


Momentary button

Use this to momentarily turn sound on and off. The momentary Button only functions when the Latching Switch is in the off (down) position.

Latching switch

Use this to latch the sound on and off. Up is on, and down is off.

Delay time controls

Controls the delay / echo time.

Delay feedback

Controls the number of delay / echo repeats.

Delay mix

Controls the volume of the delay / echo signal.

Volume

Controls the overall output volume of the Mystic.

CV controls

These will accept CV voltage of up to +5 volts. The parameter you are controlling should be at 12 0'clock to get the most effect from the voltage input.

Notes: Use these black cables with the 1010music logo on either end of the jack to connect your 1010music eurorack modules to other modules that also use stereo minijack connections. This is a TRS cable with male 3.5mm minijacks on either end. It is available in two lengths: 30cm/11.75" and 60cm/23.5". Give your module a facelift

These replacement faceplates are designed for use with the module in the traditional orientation with the screen on top. These are the same faceplates used when manufacturing our modules, but now in black. They are anodized aluminium with a bead blasted finish.

Swapping out a faceplate is easy to do, and requires a small wrench or pliers. Here are the steps to replace a faceplate:

Remove the module from the rack.
Use a small wrench or pliers to remove the small round nuts around each of the mini jacks. Note that these nuts have a notch on the top side of them. This notch fits into a specialized tool that can be used to remove these nuts more easily.
Gently tug on the four knobs to pull them off.
Use a small wrench or pliers to remove the hex nuts from the knob stems.
Remove the washers from the knob stems.
Gently pull up on the faceplate and it will slide off easily.
Place the new faceplate on the module.
Replace the washers on the knob stems.
Use a small wrench or pliers to replace the hex nuts on the knob stems.
Use a small wrench or pliers to replace the small round nuts around each of the mini jacks. Note that the notch should be on the top side of the nuts, the side away from the faceplate.
Look at the underside of the knobs and the post that they rest on. You will see that the knobs are keyed. Line up the flat edge of the hole in the knob with the flat edge of the post, and then push the knob onto the post. If you have the knob aligned properly, it should go on with moderate pressure. If it seems to require more force, please check the alignment.

Trying to create a natural sounding earplug is no mean feat as far as your own voice is concerned because, as you will have experienced, when you block off your ear canal your own voice starts to boom inside your head, this is what we call occlusion. Occlusion is caused by sound that is carried to your ear canal through the cartilage at the side of your head and usually escapes through the open ear canal so is not heard. When we block off the canal this sound cannot escape and so creates that booming effect.

A large amount of occlusion can be eliminated by ensuring that the earplug sits deep enough into the ear canal to extend past the cartilage so that the sound hits the plug and is deadened rather than entering the canal at all but the Pacato filters go one step further. The Pacato is vented to allow sound to pass both ways which means that remaining sound can escape directly through the filter providing one of the most natural sounding earplugs available.

The Pacato also offers resilience to moisture and wax build up. Being shielded from external moisture with the hard outer shell means that the fabric filter membrane is protected from the elements so your earplug will keep on performing in adverse conditions but, in addition, the filters and plugs can be cleaned to keep them performing for years to come.

Notes: These knobs are custom made for AE modular; they fit perfectly on the shafts and can be added to all AE modules, no matter of which generation they are.

Notes: The MIDI Breakout Cable is an adapter from the "classic" DIN-5 MIDI Socket to a stereo 3.5mm minijack plug, which is used as MIDI in on AE modular.

Notes: AE modular offers mostly minijack sockets for input/output; but external gear like mixers mostly use 1/4 jacks. In this case, this adapter cable can be helpful. The adapter is approx. 30cm long and can be used for mono and stereo use.

Notes: The Bus Cable connects the AE modular modules, it contains the power supply (GND, +5V) and CV, Gate, Controller, MIDI-clock / start / stop in a 10-pin ribbon cable. The folding pattern makes it possible to mount / unmount the module connected to the Iable.

PLEASE NOTE: This type 1 is for the NARROW racks (1-row or 2-row), for a 2-row rack you need two of this cable.

The case is extendable; via a joint kit (not included) another case of this width can be attached at a free angle; the bus is connected via a short connector cable between both cases.

Notes: The case hinge kit allows it to join two cases at a free angle. It contains:

two joint elements
four screws
a connection cable between the cases.

This type is designed for an application where one case is flat on the surface and the other one mounted at a certain angle. The triangle shape has the advantage that the contact to the surface is exteded to the rear side so the complete unit has a stable stand.

Via the connection cable the bus and power supply is shared between both cases, so no extra power supply / second MASTER module is needed for the additional case.
