Review: German stalwart Amor Satyr returns with his signature blend of techno, ambient, and industrial, throwing out yet another four hardcore units for his frequent label Seilscheibenpfeiler Schallplatten. Dark weighty breakbeat asserts its brunt on 'Transfer', slowly morphing into booty bass on 'Quer Dancar' and watery Baile-echoes on 'Bebe'.

Layers Of Territory (6:21)
Review: Following releases on AD 93 and Something Happening Somewhere, Amsterdam-based producer Bas Dobbelaer brings a four track EP to British imprint Trule exploring the many shades of techno. Whether it's hypnotising minimal techno ('HSS-01') or introspective IDM journeys into the deeper recesses of the mind ('Plural'), to ventures into the more off-kilter strains of the deep and atmospheric variety ('Movements') and glacial dub techno recontextualisations ('Layers Of Territory') - Dobbelaer demonstrates his high production abilities on this fine release.

Many Lives (4:59)
Chupasapos (6:01)
Review: There's a reason that 13Monkeys regulars Baymont Bross and Sekret Chadow have called this collaborative project 'The Unami Chefs'. According to their label, the EP is an attempt to blend classic breakbeats with a wide range of contemporary, cutting-edge dancefloor sounds. That aural 'recipe' comes through loud and clear on opener 'Mystic', a brilliant blend of electro, breaks, nods to vintage Orbital records and mind-mangling synths sounds. It's also evident on the similarly framed - but arguably cheerier and much more positive-sounding - 'Ekinozio', and the soaring, life-affirming, fiddle-sporting 'Many Lives', which wouldn't sound out of place on the Hartnoll brothers' most recent album. Arguably best of all though is closing cut 'Chupasaops', a thrilling chunk of acid-breaks insanity that's as addictive as it is fun.

Review: High in saturated vibes: Butterfred cuts through smoothly with these six freeform beat vignettes. Following previous explorations on his own self-titled label, here we find him cooking up his moody neo noir grooves on cult Belgian label Meakusma but it's business as usual. Distilled aesthetics that owe as much to jungle as they do hip-hop or sci-fi, each nameless cut hits with glacial, slo-mo prowess in a way that's both subtle and pretty epic. Fans of Shadow will be all over this.

D3U5E - "HAL9000" (4:37)
D3U5E - "Deckman" (3:54)
D3U5E & Gav - "The Abyss" (5:45)
Review: The always naughty Sneaker Social Club label taps up D3U5E for this fresh bass fiver tracker. It's a celebration of the UK's rich heritage of electronic music with the plunging bass and massive thwacking hits of 'Quasar' kicking off. There are dusty jungle breaks to 'Dust Particle', twisted dubstep contortions on 'HAL9000' and fizzing broken beats with a real urban menace on 'Deckman.' Closer 'The Abyss' is a collab with Gav that rides a more zoned-out and atmospheric groove and completes a varied and vital EP once more from this crucial underground label.

Dogpatrol & Nasty King Kurl - "Creepin" (6:01)
Review: Dystopian bass pushers Sneaker Social Club return with a brand new one from fresh signee Dogpatrol. With the label setting aside its recent preference for high-concept, gritty LPs, it here tops up the dancier corner of its distinctly UK brutalist-sounding soundscape-over-time: the Snkrx series. Undulatory minimal techno, moving into a bassy electro pair from fellow pusher King Kurl, unfurls over the course of four volatile sonic concrete offcuts.

Soulz (5:46)
Bodies (5:55)
Mind (5:03)
Review: Re:ni and Laska's RE:LAX imprint is off to a flying start as Laska takes the lead with this uncompromising 150BPM three-tracker. Club-primed heaviness sitting somewhere between electro, techno and bass music, each cut fixes a firm focus on percussive funk and hypnotic grooves. 'Soulz' goes heavy on the switches and ear-blurring hang drum hits, 'Bodies' goes all-out dark side while 'Mind' is a full physical trip that borders on squat party techno. Handle with caution.

Review: The fabric originals label goes from strength to strength here with a new EP from Bristol-born, London-based LCY, which the artist has said "is a songbook written in relation to organised religion, its relations to my continued unpacking of gender and sexuality and how a lot of these forced conformities have subconsciously affected my musical expression and often conflict my existence and ability to move forward." The EP opens with dark synth waterfalls and chopped-up vocals and goes into dense percussive territory, glitchy sound design and abstract composition that sounds like little else.

Zone (Packet) (3:23)
Review: Lurka ended the year on a high with a kick-ass new EP on his own new label Make Your Own Meaning. He is now set to start 2023 in an equally strong fashion with four more futuristic bass fusions. 'Wire' is a minimal stepper with bursts of bass and flitting percussive lines. 'Molten Drum' is another twitchy mix of malfunctioning computer sounds, refracted vocals and fizzing synths that keep you on edge then 'Machine' picks ups the pace with jumpy rhythms and militant snare work. 'Zone (Packet)' rounds out with a double-speed workout and juke patterns that head out on a cosmic journey.

Variable (10:33)
Plate (8:19)
Review: Deep techno favourite Mammo throws a massive curveball on their latest EP 'Variable/Plate', impressing us with high-octane pressurezones and great biosynth forests of sound. The emphasis on world-building - particularly of fantasy worlds that make sound design sound alive - has taken the contemporary music production world by storm of late. Mammo's production reminds falls into this camp, reminding us of contemporary artists like Bby Eco or Special Guest DJ, but theirs has an added dance flair that further extends the appeal of this one. We love the deep-pulsing 'Plate', which hears a lead nipping sound that soars like a bionic pigeon in play-flight, but the real treat is 'Variable', which endlessly, generatively modulates its transitory textures and sounds to produce something, well, living and breathing.

Scratchclart - "IC3" (Menzi remix) (3:00)
Menzi & Scratchclart - "Nasty Nasty Nasty" (remix) (3:32)
Review: South Africa vs London: Scratch DVA reaches out to Durban's Menzi for this exciting exploration between gqom and grime. Both movements sonically characterised by minimalism, space, dynamic percussion and heavyweight bass, the dots are ready to join as both artists weave in and out of each other's palette, remixing each other's work and pushing each other's sound in different directions. The end result is a club-ready sound that can unite DJs across the bass/beat continuum.

Ark Specific (4:18)
Bullet Time (feat Older Brother) (5:20)
Review: Metrist closes doesn't a trilogy of EPs on Timedance with this third and final offering of Pollen. It is another meticulously well-crafted mix of intelligent synth design and hi-fidelity sound with inventive techno rhythms. 'Leven Lever Liver Love' opens with a hint of IDM and poppy synth madness. 'Higher Higher Dawn' is another brain-cleansing cut with a freaky vocal adding a human touch. 'Y Y Y MY' then layers up loopy sounds to melt the mind in a hyper-real fashion and 'Ark Specific' again pairs floating rhythmic airiness with bass weight and thrillingly fresh melodies. 'Bullet Time' (feat Older Brother) is a dystopian way to end this forward-thinking EP.

Taki Taki (2:25)
Review: Radioactive funk abounds as SIN and NAP bring together their extensive freeform collaborations that have been bubbling away behind the scenes for the last two years. Rhythmic, pulsating body music with strong roots in both techno and dancehall, Sinnaz shimmers with 3am mischief. 'Consentido' hits hard both vocally and as a rhythm track while 'Concha Dub' ripples and twangs at a Wink-level of 303 freakery. Finally 'Taki Taki' takes us right to the alien edge before bringing us back to earth with MAW style tribalist percussion. Heavyweight.

Granul - "Interconnected" (Iskeletor remix) (2:48)
Review: Yuku come correct with this special blue vinyl remix 12". Two vibes per side, both Traka and Granul go under the knife. On one side we have Serbian crew Traka under scrutiny as Commodo flips 'Yosai' into a menacing slab of tension while Muqata takes the Killa P-fronted 'Start Taking Note' into a brutalist sonic rainbow. Flip for two remixes of Turkish maverick Granul; Jtamul turns two-step inside out with stacks of eerie space on 'Deformity' while Iskeletor turns 'Interconnected' into the twisted, halftime heaver of your dreams. Stark sermons!

Review: The Well Street label welcomes Yushh for her debut EP. The Pressure Dome label-head (who has previously landed on Facta & K-LONE's Wisdom Teeth as well as Banoffee Pies) brings a mind-altering mix of sounds here. There is sparse and futuristic space techno on 'Kara Arriba' then deeply introspective downbeat on 'Siro Silo'. 'Dough' is a percolating rhythm piece with rubbery bass and dreamy pads while 'OXI Ambigan' floats through space next to fizzing synth details, distant nebulas and alien life forms.

Review: After spending eight years showcasing his wares on labels including System Music, Sector 7 Sounds and Coyote Records, deep bass music specialist Drone is ready to unveil his debut album, 'Dance With The Devil'. In keeping with his boundary-blurring approach, the 13-track set presents tracks that variously draw influence from deep dubstep, grime, electro, skwee and d&b. It's a hugely atmospheric and - it should be noted - on-point affair, with Drone being joined by a host of well-regarded collaborators including Snowy, Alix Perez, Hyroglifics, Deft and Elm. Our picks of a strong bunch include the skittish, clandestine 140 business of 'Swamp', the dubby trip-hop/deep soul of 'Ski Mask' and the breathless electro-goes-d&b flex of 'Jugtown'.

Review: Building from the heat of a series of bass/techno/club fusions on the likes of Intramuros and F T D over recent years, E-Unity serves up his most ambitious release to date - BBB<3. Hard to pronounce, easy to listen to; BBB<3 sees Lioc Berger flexing a softer set of shades on his palette with this wide armed display of genres. From the Ame-style rolling house music of 'Zimba Frog' to the euphoric sci-fi dancehall hip-shakes of 'Etra' and the emotion laden electro finale 'BBB<3', it's soulful salute to deeper paradigms of yore while still marching into the future.

Review: Following last year's Final Departure on Keysound, J Shadow returns to the realm of albums with his second LP, this time on Sneaker Social Club. Ominously titled The End Of All Physical Form, it's business as usual as J plays between the genres, murking up boundary lines with a raw sense of funk and emotional energy. Sitting somewhere between breaks, garage, grime and drum & bass, the whole body of work is a whirlwind attack of the senses that works well both for home listening and dancefloor demolishing. From the breakbeat bombardment of 'Arsu' to the much slower, undiluted eski-beat heaviness of 'Prototype' by way of the turbo charged futurist finale 'No Gravity', J Shadow has delivered something special here... And it sounds best on the physical form of a 12".

Review: Skee Mask, who only recently was found out to be called Bryan Muller, comes through with his second LP to date, making a wonderful follow-up to 2016's Shred. Compro is, ironically, comprised of a much more explorative palette of sounds, with many corners of the album veering off into otherworldly ambient, often through a striking new-age sensibility. The most impressive element of this album is its flow and evolution across its 12 tracks, sounding a lot more like one single-minded thought rather than a collection of disparate dance-not-dance tunes. The quality of the recording is noticeable, too, with tracks like "Rev8617" or "Via Sub Mids" sounding professional, both in vision and style. Through an intricate collage of breaks, samples, polyphonies, and subtle electronic manipulations, Skee Mask has truly mastered his own art, and is giving a new direction to the wider 'UK rave' sound. BIG.
