Review: Kai Alce's faultless NDATL label brings us more goodies direct from his base in Atlanta, which might be best known for its rap but also packs a punch when it comes to house music. This one is from Rasheeda Ali, a new name that might be familiar to anyone who heard Kai's 'Sheed's Move' tune from a previous EP. She has also been on stage with none other than Jeff Mills and here her flute skills come to the fore with production from Kai. 'Libra Ascending' has a snappy bounce, then 'Sheed's Rising' showcases Rasheeda's gymnastic flautist abilities. A fine debut.

Review: Hello to Nine Teas, a new label making its debut on these pages. And we couldn't be happier about that as Ambrose cooks up some quality deep house sounds on this sizzling Nothing's Gonna Make Me Stop EP. The title track is a loose jumble of warm summer chords and funk breaks, with perfect vocal samples up top. What's not to like? After a dub with plenty of jazz infection comes the steamier and more direct 'Summer Haze'. It's still rough around the edges and high on dusty soul, but is one to get the floor going early doors. The 12" Mix ups the party feels to close out a winning EP.

Review: We're told that the Hot Pot label has been specially resurrected to put out these jams from the one and only former Slum Village DJ, Mahogany Music artist, hip-hop head and house don that is Dez Andres. They are some of the edits and reworks he has been playing out on the circuit in his Detroit hometown and they get pressed up nice and loud here on fresh wax. First up he reworks a stone-cold classic with a distinctive Latin house twang while on the flip, his signature boom-bap drum work defines another killer groove. Super stuff as ever from the man.

Review: Although you can never be sure exactly what you will get when you see that a new Studio Barnhus 12" has arrived, you can be sure it will be good quality and almost certainly fun. The playful Sweden-based collective calls upon Ari Bald and CJ Scott for this latest outing and sure as hell it kicks off with the lush and uplifting loops of 'Detective Chimp' that take you ever higher. 'King Conga' is then a jazzy, percussive workout on a lovely jumbled and organic rhythm, 'Orangotango' as loose and disco-tinged drum shuffles and sci-fi synth details and 'Grape Ape' rounds out a charming, characterful EP full of colour.

Review: Lost Palms return with an atmospheric ambient techno cut from newcomer Astro. The Edinburgh-based producer prefers to make dance music of the quietly space-age variety, demonstrating a neat penchant for cosmic transitions, filter-blends and awestruck arpeggiations. Thematically, the artist knows well what they're getting at: A-sider 'It's Timeless' titularly nods at its own structural indeterminacy, while flip cuts 'Radiance' and 'Disorder' get nice and trancey with it by comparison.

Review: Audio Soul Project returns with fresh vinyl here in the form of their Simurgh EP, which is named after a mythical Persian bird. Across the tunes you'll find a fusion of dub, d&B, house and even r&b to make for an alluring sonic trip. Opener 'Deliver Me' brings the warmth and soul with balmy chords over raw, woody drums with a big diva vocal up top. Things are paired back for 'Azizam Dub' which has a subsonic bass line bump and synth stabs bringing the energy. 'Internal Vybrations' is d&b powered by monstrous bass with hi-hats, shakers and maracas detailing the rhythm, and last of all 'Celebration Dub' brings a funky and summery house vibe perfect for outdoor dancing. This is as varied an EP as you'll hear this season.

Review: Those with even a basic knowledge of Italian dance music will have come across Alex Neri productions before; during the 1990s, he recorded loads of house (and less frequently, techno), under a wide variety of aliases. In 1991, he donned the Axe Corner alias (alongside studio buddies Adriana Dodici, Marco Baroni and Pietro Peretti) and delivered Tortuga, an EP of moody blends of house and techno that now sound surprisingly far-sighted. A-sides 'OUT-SLD' and 'IN-SLD' are both forthright but funky techno outings whose bleeping lead lines and thickset grooves pay tribute to the then-massive bleep & bass sound (albeit without the colossal sub-bass and dub reggae influences that style was famous for), while flip-side cuts 'BAD-SLD' and 'SLD-Effects' deliver tougher, late-night takes on the organ-rich Italo-house sound.

B Love, Rokko, Mathijs Smit and Herra come through for their latest V/A here, each with their own unique style and flavour to the four-way table - whether they work in deep house, techno, or the cheekier side of speed-garage-ambient. As 'Thumb Milk' says in the pre-drop moment of pause: "do what you feel, when you feel like it". Review: Eclectic technoizer Basic Bastard locks arms with Detroiter Orlando Voorn, their dual sonic output being the new 'Drama' EP. The three-tracker is nothing short of a sonic adventure, spanning acid, to dub, to uncategorisable entrainments. Bastard's original 'Drama' nails the art of the acid loop, a tricky tactic that is much less masterable than one might think. Voorn remixes the track my miring its elements in a cruddy ambience, while also greedily occupying the entire B-side with the urban-hellish jazz-noise-house cut 'Survival'.

Review: NTThis EP on Milan-based label Stolen Goods is a great example of how house music can be both smooth and danceable at the same time. 'High Cutz Vol. III' is a solid EP that showcases the deep house talents of Italian producers Black Loops and Innocent Soul. The two original tracks 'Belive in U' and 'Destiny' are both bouncy and groovy, with catchy vocal samples and jazzy chords. The Pasta Boys remix of the latter adds a bit more energy and funk to the mix, while keeping the soulful vibe of the original.

Review: Those who pay attention to South American DJ culture may have encountered Barbara Boeing, a genuine rising star who has slowly been easing herself into music production. This is her debut EP, which was co-produced by another scene starlet, Toy Tonics regular Sam Ruffillo. 'Brigada', featuring Phil Mill, is the headline attraction - a brilliant blend of nu-disco colour, mid-90s US house motifs, hip-house breakbeats and sun-splashed melodies aplenty. Esa Williams remixes, keeping the joyousness of the original version whilst giving the track a bit of a post-kwaito, late 1980s/early 90s South African house feel. Elsewhere, 'Brasiliana' sounds like early 90s Pet Shop Boys after a fist full of happy pills, while 'Baille Do Silencio' sees Boeing brilliantly join the dots between Art of Noise, electrofunk and rushing nu-disco.

Review: Use Vinyl reissues cuts that were once dancefloor staples within the Italian disco scene. On this double header, they serve up two stone cold classics, both of which come accompanied by beefed up contemporary reworks. On side A there's a chance to savour Hamilton Bohannon's 1981 re-make of his celebrated club cut, 'Let's Start The Dance Part II'. This version was notably tougher and even funkier than its predecessor, with tons of dub mix style drops into Bohannon's infectious disco-funk guitar licks and the impassioned female backing vocals. Italian house legends Marco Fratty and Corrado Presti (both formerly of PFI Project) provide a tasteful but excitable rework, before side B opens with Barabas's prototype Afro-cosmic gem 'Wild Safari'. Fratty goes solo to remix that, updating the track without losing its distinctive, percussion-rich ethos.

Review: Boo is a solo Japanese boogie vocalist who was largely active in the noughties; his most eminent album 'Post Soulman' was released in two volumes, and did thrilling justice to Boo's soulful vocals and faux-Philadelphia street beatstyle. Review: Despite a sizable, high-quality discography that stretches back to 1994, Boo Williams has never been as hyped or celebrated as many of his Chicago deep house peers. Perhaps it's time we gave him some love because the Natural Service EP - his first solo 12" on Chiwax since 2014 - is undeniably excellent. Check first opener 'Ambushed', where twinkling electronics and sumptuous pads ride jackin' drums and a brilliant bassline, before turning your attention to 'Echoes of the Dance', an acid-flecked journey through dreamy, loved-up deep house that's as picturesque as they come. Flipside 'Zone' is even more hypnotic and trance-inducing, sitting somewhere between classic deep house and the techier end of Omar-S's output.

Eric Johnson keeps it raw, deep and loopy on 'Melodic Gruv' then Reggie Dokes brings his signature Atlanta house sound to 'Mother's Child' with its melancholic lead sax and 'End of Time' is a broken beat bliss out.

Review: Constant Sound co-owner James 'Burnski' Burnham delivers a stonking pair of garage-flecked house tracks that offer up no nonsense dancefloor attitude in spades. 'Shout' is all about its monster rhythmic framework, with economic splashes of synths on the side simply maintaining the flavour and a properly full on old skool breakdown. Flip track 'Remember' leans a little further towards UK garage with its sugar sweet female vocal snippets, but the central groove hustles and bustles along with maximum weightiness, making it suitable for any number of differing dancefloors.

Review: Chaos In The CBD launch their new label, In Dust We Trust. The imprint is a collaboration between the London-based Kiwi brothers (Ben and Louis Helliker-Hales) and their friend Jon Sable. This release, Accidental Meetings, inaugurates the new label. Starting off with the dusty, soulful and emotive title track which is reminiscent of classic Nick Holder with its sultry vocals atop, they're then into some emotive hi-tech soul on "North Pole Cafe". But they save the best for last with the great vibes of "United Identities" which channels that same life affirming groove as their recent track "Natural Taboo" on the Craigie Knowles compilation: only this one gets some serious Latin rhythms happening much like Joe Claussell circa "Je Ka Jo". Review: The Helliker-Hales brothers are in fine form on their latest two-track missive on their In Dust We Trust imprint. A-side "Come Together" is perhaps a little bolder and more tech-tinged than their regular fare, with distinctive, alien-sounding lead lines, trance-like female vocal snippets and stabbing, warehouse-ready riffs rising over forthright drums and a chunky, retro-futurist bassline. If anything, "Digital Sound" is even heavier, with dub-wise vocal snippets, bleeping electronics and foreboding chords dancing around heavy tribal drums and the kind of muscular riffs that were once a hallmark of Junior Vasquez and Danny Tenaglia's mid-90s productions. In other words, it's a suitably sizable "big room" record.

The trio offer up two collaborative cuts, both of which give different spins on the fusion of dub techno and hypnotic deep house. There's opener 'Mahia Madness', a thickset, late-night number that's as dubby and hazy as any Deepchord record, and the gently picturesque, Sprinkles-esque 'To Puke Thunder'. The EP also boasts a solo track apiece, with Chaos in the CBD opting for non-stop, energy-packed deep techno hypnotism ('Coral Castle'), and Sable reaching for dreamy deep house chords and rubbery broken beats ('Ascension Island').

Review: Endangered Musique kicks off with a high-quality reissue of an EP that deep house heads will either already know or soon grow to love. It was written by Jose Chinga in 1994 and is an alias of an artist better known as Brothers' Vibe aka Tony Rodriguez. The opening tune 'Love Is What You Need' is also the most well-known - it's US garage with low-slung drums and grainy pad work with a simple but effective vocal. 'I Got You' picks up the pace with shuffling drums and a grinding lead before the warm 90s house sounds come to the fore again on 'Let It Go' and 'Riding On A Cloud'. Lovely stuff.
