Fun-K (5:58)
Cheeloom (8:10)
Molecoles (7:17)
Nite Life (6:32)
Review: This acid tech-trance gem was first released in 1996, and first made an appearance on the suitably Star Trek-themed Spock Records, an Italian label that saw to much trance of the utmost quality get released during its Italo heyday. The victim of horrible scalping, it's well overdue for a rerelease. 'Fun-K' is the highlight, showing off producer Bhasmantam's (Gieuseppe Pol's) sensitive and detail-oriented trance production chops, straddling euphoria and technicality in a manner that does not alienate or confuse. The remaining tunes are more breathable and minimal affairs, but all build a world that captivate as they do enthrall.

CK - "Lock" (6:26)
Ben Boe - "Neighbourhood Quasar" (CK remix) (6:06)
Review: C.K. is a Danish producer best known for his work in 2 Bit Crew and Regelbau, but he's more recently been focusing on his Private Recording System label, which strides into its ninth release with a little outside input from Ben Boe. C.K. himself leads on the A-side with 'Lock', a solid house-geared workout with plenty of immersive melodic threads tipping the vibe towards the proggy end of things. Meanwhile on the flip Boe's 'Neighbourhood Quasar' gets the remix treatment from C.K., who flips it into a bouncy, 909-powered jam for dancefloor dreamers the world over.

Flotation Agent
Cat: HAWS 020. Rel: 24 Apr 23
Flotation Agent (7:29)
Irregular Minds (5:57)
Five Atoms (6:45)
Equilibrium (7:03)
Review: Flotation is the sole aim of Cosmic G & Laars' latest EP - if there's anything that evokes the feeling of floating in dance music, it's gated heavenly vocals. That's exactly what we're met with on the opening title track here; flights of angels sing us to our unrest, as we duly float upwards beyond the stratosphere and party with our maker outside the pearly gates. It's a theme that is carried throughout the EP, a slinky and 'amphibian' acid house EP if we were to say anything otherwise about it. Progressively, things get deeper and darker, save for the breaks closer 'Equilibrium', which more or less evokes the feeling of flying back down to Earth on the back of a magic orca.

Cafe Del Mar (remixes)
Cafe Del Mar (Tale Of Us Renaissance remix) (8:14)
Cafe Del Mar (Paul Van Dyk XOXO remix) (7:58)
Review: We could hardly believe it when last year we spotted that Cafe Del Mar has turned 30 years old already. It became an instant Ibiza classic as soon as it landed back in 1992 and has remained that way ever since. Now we get an equally vital part of trance music history - the one and only Paul Van Dyk - serving up his own new XOYO remix. It's a subtle tweak that brings more texture to the timeless original while emo techno pair Tale of Us blast in some white noise and bass rumbles to up the ante further for main room deployment.

Eric OS - "Eden"
Eric OS - "Timebomb"
Lewis - "Project Mayhem"
Lewis - "Acid44"
Review: Deep In Dis Intl. returns after a hiatus, presenting a split EP featuring Swedish talents Eric OS and Lewis. Eric's releases on System Error, Eya Records and Space Trace caught the label's attention after hearing his tracks at Nostromo Festival. Lewis, head of Data Flow, brings his analogue soundscapes. 'Eden' (A1) fills the dancefloor with endless grooves and dreamy pads. 'Timebomb' (A2) takes the vibe higher with proggy melodies and solid drum patterns. 'Project Mayhem' (B1) hypnotises with its groove, while 'Acid44' seals the EP with infectious synths, snappy snares and a powerful bassline.

State Of Trance

State Of Trance (8:29)
Anonymous (7:26)
Review: Tel Aviv-born producer and DJ Guy J returns with two key pieces, State Of Trance and Anonymous, for Lost & Found. Paying direct homage to the hypnotic oeuvre of early trance classics, both tracks here lay down a sweet, burgeoning mood of entrainment - the breakdown on the A-side removes the kick drum halfway, locking in a rhythmic nerviness that many trance artists would be afraid of indulging. Meanwhile, the B-sider mires arpy rapture in loud textures of wind and thunder, dropping out most of its elements into a ghostly, gargantuan haze before dropping them back into a minimal, gobby drop.

Momentum (5:46)
Review: Branko Novakovic and Niklas Schafers are Hidden Empire and they're back on Stil Vor Talent with another savvy mix of emotive European house music. Their carefully crafted sound has artful values and a real focus on melodies as well as heartfelt piano chords and original vocals. 'Who We Are' (feat Felix Raphael) kicks off with sound-tingling vocals and tenor pianos that are elevated by the soaring drums. The slow-burning approach also defines 'Alright' and late-night melancholy of 'Dark Sun.' On the flip, careful arps and pixelated melodies fall down the face of 'Last Call' for a real EP highlight.

Perception Check
Review: UK producer and DJ Lisene has been a regular fixture on the 'cheeky' side of the nation's dance music circles. Craigie Knowes provides ample patronage and license for him to release his latest EP here, 'Square One'. Inspired by Lisene's revisiting of his workflow and implementing a new approach to production, choice tracks from 'Deja Voodoo' to 'Perception Check' segue through both light and dark moods, carefully nodding to broken beat, garage, and acid trance as ever - but with an extra-slick, cetaceous vibe.

Exalted (5:51)

Aurora 41 (5:43)
Green Abyss (5:00)
Review: Janky five-track minimal techno from Muscovy producer O'Fourtyfour, topping up a slew of releases for the likes of Pahatam and Closer, for this latest one on his own label Sequalog. Truly sounding like the magic goings-on heard from a sly wizard's enchanting table, the devilish concoctions brewed up here include the echoic 'Exalted' and the effervescent 'Topka'. The B-side charts an oddball curve, seguing into snappy dreamlectro with 'Aurora 41' and downtempo dubiousness with 'Green Abyss'.

When The Job Is Done (6:35)
Review: Lithuanian producer Pletnev might have some occasional fun under the various aliases of Ponty Mython and Moisk, but he here returns to his most central alias on 'When The Job Is Done', his latest EP. Four bits of 90s-inspired ambient acid house, techno and breakbeat all collide into a wispy and cinematic foray through aetherial post-aquatic electronics. Wetness ('Water Can Keep Secrets Too') and dryness (the B tunes) both occupy the wax in equal, complementary measure. All danceable, of course. Dare we say, they're synthetic enough to evoke thoughts of what might happen if Laurie Andserson and Vangelis took eccies together.

Substation Fever (Adam Pits remix) (5:45)
Hi Tek Lo Life (6:59)
The Signal Prevails (6:29)
Review: As the co-mingling of tech house and trance continues apace, we've reached the point where prog is fully back on deck and Space Lab are absolutely here for it. The continuously joyous, rave-minded party and label are in thrall to the unifying sounds of richly melodic, trippy club music, and Bristol-based producer Remotif is ready to give them what they want, not least on ecstatic lead track 'Substation Fever'. Adam Pits holds true to the overall vibe of the track while offering his own nuanced kind of trance-out on the 'Cascade Remix' before we flip over to savour the hot and steamy 'Hi Tek Lo Life' with its rowdy 90s house jack and expertly woven atmospherics. 'The Signal Prevails' switches stance for a slow but meaty breakbeat joint laden with a synapse-tingling array of pings, tweaks and wriggles for the wide-eyed massive.

Review: Over the past ten years brothers Sasha and Sergey Lipsky have been throwing down their own brand of wayward grooves as Simple Symmetry, tapping into a kind of cosmic sound which has been right at home on labels like Disco Halal. Now the Russiann pair have arrived on Multi Multi after teasing the connection with a compilation offering in 2021. On this EP we get dark n' dirty electro throb, ascendant trancey techno, sentimental sax-laden wooze-house (think 'Pacific State' on luudes) and a remix from kindred spirits Red Axes which will do maximum damage on the floor.

Review: Mindhelmet is one of the freshest underground labels out there right now. It has excelled at mining a rich vein of electronic sounds where space music, techno, electro and minimal all combine into fresh new forms. Wickham is next up with some colourful and creative party sounds on this 11th label EP. 'Lost Grain' is all bouncy bass and splashy cymbals, 'Busker' is a stripped-back tech pumper and 'Crowded' has lively and playful synth stabs that will get any floor vibing. The flipside offers three more similar tight, vivid yet spaced out dancefloor gems.

Review: Multi-instrumentalist, music-maker, and singer-songwriter Elderbrook shares his second album 'Little Love' for ADA, channelling a mixture of big, bold electronic and more sensitive acoustic pop elements to express the lows, highs and neutrals of becoming a father. Speaking of "glimmers in your eye" and "being there if you need me", this is a promise of unconditional love in album form, with its overarching mood being one of surety.

Review: Anjunadeep has pulled out another majestic album here, this time from Nils Hoffmann. 'A Radiant Sign' is his sophomore album and another one that backs up many people's claims that he is one of the most exciting emerging talents out there. The Berlin-based producer showcases his mastery of his synths and magical melodic sounds with music that takes cues from the likes of Rufus du Sol, Olafur Arnalds and Stephan Bodzin. He opts for hard drums on 'Tiderays' but more ambient designs on 'A Radiant Sign' while 'Let Me Go' is complex synth work that takes you to a higher emotional plane.

Review: Leftifled's Leftism remains one of the great dance music albums of all time. It came back in the 90s when no one was making full lengths that really made the most of the format: This is not a collection of club tracks but a musical voyage through dub, techno, bass and house that is meticulously designed and all-consuming once you turn it up nice and loud. In fact, it is best enjoyed in one sitting rather than in the modern playlist fashion with tracks broken up because that way the pressure is built and released, the moods ebb and flow and the music really makes an indelible impact.

He's straight back to work, calling in the big guns to lend their sparkled to his latest blockbuster album, Drive. From new chart toppers like Tate McRae to Charli XCX and Ava Max, not forgetting some heritage co-signs from the likes of The Black Eyed Peas, this album finds Tiesto embracing housier territory. While his die-hard trance fans might grumble, everyone else will be having a whale of a time to these infectious, poppy bangers.

Review: The eighth instalment of Global Underground's Select series follows the pattern set by its predecessors by offering up two discs of mixed, non-stop music, all of which is either new, recent or exclusive. In keeping with GU's roots in progressive house, the majority of the tracks on offer are melodic and atmospheric, blurring the boundaries between deep house, tech-house, techno, dubbier fare and breakbeat-driven dreaminess. It's all attractive and listenable, though there are some headline-grabbing highlights - not least the sun-splashed deliciousness of Solee's 'Growl', the Space Invaders-goes-trance throb of 1979's 'Vulcano', a typically heady 'lost' Herbert dub of Dusky and Janai's 'Lost In You' and the deep-tech shuffle of Jonathan Kaspar's 'Where Am I'.
