Review: Eyes of the Amaryllis is a collective that announced its arrival with a debut self-titled album back in 2021 on cassette tape. A year later they landed on Horn of Plenty with a second album which came on vinyl, and now they offer up a first 45rpm in the form of 'Lunchtime On Earth' on Swedish label I Dischi Del Barone. All four tracks are decidedly short and to the point and sit somewhere between post-rock and experimental with elements of lo-fi, folk and world & country. It's the title track that stands out with its doleful guitars, plenty of echo and drifting, wordless vocal sounds making for a beautifully melancholic vibe.

Review: Canadian hardcore punk experimentalists Fucked Up almost never seem to cease dropping new releases, and this past Record Store Day was no different. Following their sixth full-length One Day which dropped at the beginning of the year (and was literally put together in one day), the Cops 7" is a reliably old school and aggro ACAB message and spiritual sequel to 'Police'; their original 2002 anthem. Featuring an equally pissed off b-side cut, succinctly titled 'Fucks', as well as a rendition of Orbital's 'Quality Seconds', this is a surprisingly vicious turn from a collective who've become renowned for their expansive reimagining of the genre and usually positive messaging of love and inclusivity.

Review: Few conversations or analyses surrounding doom metal can begin without mentioning the integral Sleep and their genre-defining opus Dopesmoker. That same analytical discussion cannot be rounded up without OM coming into the fray, as the duo of bassist Al Cisneros and drummer Chris Haikus originally worked together as Sleep's rhythm section. The hypnotic 'Gebel Barkal' single would serve as the final recording from the pair following the 2007 full-length Pilgrimage, before 2009's God Is Good would welcome the arrival of current drummer Emil Amos and signal the group's continued expansion into an eventual three-piece.

Review: Several new reissues of Current 93's music come via Cashen's Gap, the home imprint of said industrial supergroup - which infamously includes musical iconoclast David Tibet among its ranks. Night At The Four Winds Bar Maldoror is one of their albums, released in 2023 - it's a complete reworking of their 1986 album Live At Bar Maldoror, with the original album playing forwards in the right-hand channel and backwards in the left-hand channel. Its 15 tracks explore themes of death, apocalypse and transcendence, using a mix of industrial, folk and ambient sounds. Don't miss it, as it's one of the band's many curiosities, and is a star example of what made the band so lauded as among Britain's weirdest acts in the 80s and 90s.

Review: Anyone who has watched the documentary 'The Sound Of Progress' will know how truly bonkers Current 93 were, and presumably still are. The British experimental group are currently in the process of either reissuing or reinterpreting several of their former LPs and live shows - one of these being Great Aleph Lies Dreaming. This LP is a so-called "ReDreaming" of their 2009 album Aleph At Hallucinatory Mountain, and by and large contains an increasingly weird and effected sound compared to the more straightforward original - in turn drew on tropes ranging from the apocalypse to doom metal and stoner rock.
