Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Full-bodied and complete with obscured vocals, this is the kind of track to pull out your bag when it's time to really get stuck in. On the B-side, 'Napkin Knowledge' draws on the glistening synths of eurodance, yet still securing the melodies to a grounded bassline and rhythm section. 'Salitre' is the perfect closing track, rising up in a gleaming, ecstatic melody, before delicately returning to ground level. A varied yet firmly cohesive collaborative release - the perfect way for Selador to kick off their 2023 catalogue.

Review: It's relatively rare to find a record whose reworks have made a more significant impact on club culture than its original mix, but The Age of Love's eponymous debut single is definitely one of them. This purple vinyl reissue bundles the rework that made the track famous - Jam & Spoon's wondrous, mid-90s 'Watch Out For Stella' mix, which remains one of the most magical trance tracks of all time - with the 1990 original, a Belgian new beat oddity that nevertheless contains all of the key ingredients (plus some extra-dreamy pads and a bizarre rap vocal). We're also treated to a more recent update from heavy techno stars Charlotte De Witte and Enrico Sanguiliano that wraps the tracks trancey lead lines and raw TB-303 acid lines around a stomping, big room-ready beat.

Review: Flotation is the sole aim of Cosmic G & Laars' latest EP - if there's anything that evokes the feeling of floating in dance music, it's gated heavenly vocals. That's exactly what we're met with on the opening title track here; flights of angels sing us to our unrest, as we duly float upwards beyond the stratosphere and party with our maker outside the pearly gates. It's a theme that is carried throughout the EP, a slinky and 'amphibian' acid house EP if we were to say anything otherwise about it. Progressively, things get deeper and darker, save for the breaks closer 'Equilibrium', which more or less evokes the feeling of flying back down to Earth on the back of a magic orca.

Paying direct homage to the hypnotic oeuvre of early trance classics, both tracks here lay down a sweet, burgeoning mood of entrainment - the breakdown on the A-side removes the kick drum halfway, locking in a rhythmic nerviness that many trance artists would be afraid of indulging. Review: The Speicher series feels almost as old as techno itself by now. It has long been one of the many jewels in Cologne label Kompakt's crown and Kolsch, one of the label's chief mainstays, has been behind many of them. This 128th such offering is a dreamy yet dynamic techno sound that sits up there with some of the label's best offerings. 'Cold Air' is urgent and edgy but always awash with waves of melodic sheen even when the ragged bass is in free fall. 'Environ' then has a 90s IDM Warp feel to it with its bright reflective melodies filtered and drawn out, stretched and smeared over a big and bouncy beat.

Review: You always know what you are going to get with Running Back - and we mean that in terms of quality rather than any one particular musical style. Gerd Janson's label does what it wants but never fails to set the floor alight. Here it is Krystal Kevlar who brings his own brand of main room house. Like so much stuff right now, 'Endeavour' has a 90s bent with its sweeping chord sequences before 'Americana' takes you on a deeper and more undulating groove. Review: Paul Oakenfold's classic Southern Sun from 2002 gets revisited here at a time when trance music seems to be very much back in fashion from the old-school parties that never went away to the new-school techno kids adding it with trendy twists to their sounds. It is the trance titan Tiesto who steps up first and keeps it deep and emotive on his version. The chords are Balearic and sun-kissed with a hint of melancholy that will surely appeal to DJs and dancers across multiple genres. The Gabriel & Dresden unplugged remix is more driving and hard-hitting, with snappy snares and a train track-like groove that builds up and sweeps you off your feet.

Review: For all the Paul Oakenfold material we tend to burn through, it was only a matter of time before we reached Bunkka. Oakenfold's debut album, it was first released on the little-known Maverick label, but Oakenfold lived up to his patron's name, commenting at the time that - "I hope (my fans) realise that in any forms of music you need to push the boundaries." It's for that reason that Bunkka isn't just a straight-up trance record, instead working in more fashionable elements from styles that were also popular at the time, from big beat to trip-hop, perhaps helping prototype "psybient". Among its many collabs, even writer Hunter S. Thompson is credited on the track 'Nixon's Spirit', reflecting the full pull of Oakenfold's esoteric influences.

Review: Perennial psy-trance masterminds Sphongle are revisiting their revered back catalogue with some choice vinyl reissues, and on this occasion they're looking back to 2017 epic Codex IV. On this particular record Simon Posford and Raja Ram took things in a particularly mellow, ambient and downtempo direction. Ram's eloquent instrumentation glides through lush soundscapes sculpted by Posford and vice versa, as one of the most iconic partnerships in all of psy-trance demonstrate their vision well beyond the trappings of generic definition. Cut across three mighty slabs of wax, this is another flawless immersion experience from one of the best acts to ever do it.

Review: What do you do when you've completed dance music multiple times over? Most would retire to a life of glamour and indulgence on a yacht somewhere sunny, but not Tiesto. He's straight back to work, calling in the big guns to lend their sparkled to his latest blockbuster album, Drive. Review: Trance is back if you didn't know - of course artists like Armin Van Buuren never really went away, even if they leant into a more maximal EDM sound for a while - but now even the underground cool cats are layering teary eyed synths into their techno. They'd do well to study a master of the form such as Armin whose new album Feel Again finds him reinvigorated and in love with making music once more, so we're told. He took up meditation in order to get there and also "reformed his life routines" and what results is this fine collection of uplifting electronic sound.

Everything from ethereal techno to trance-tinged bangers is on offer here, starting with Soul Button's 'Qabila', a celestial and cinematic trip on widescreen and melodic grooves. Review: Younger Brother are psychedelic electronic music's prodigal sons, and 'A Flock Of Bleeps' was their debut album. This being the first statement of intent by the collaborative duo that was Simon Posford (Shpongle) and Benji Vaughan (Prometheus), the album was in fact no less developed in sound than their later material. As is usually the case with 'psytrance' (in quotation marks because that term has lost quite a bit of meaning), the LP begins serenely before dropping into over a hours' worth of seamless IDM brain-warpery, with most of its rather timeless productions complemented by a string of vocal contributions from Michelle Adamson.
