Shout (6:54)
Remember (6:44)
Review: Constant Sound co-owner James 'Burnski' Burnham delivers a stonking pair of garage-flecked house tracks that offer up no nonsense dancefloor attitude in spades. 'Shout' is all about its monster rhythmic framework, with economic splashes of synths on the side simply maintaining the flavour and a properly full on old skool breakdown. Flip track 'Remember' leans a little further towards UK garage with its sugar sweet female vocal snippets, but the central groove hustles and bustles along with maximum weightiness, making it suitable for any number of differing dancefloors.

Love Is What You Need (6:21)
I Got You (5:03)
Let It Go (5:44)
Riding On A Cloud (4:52)
Review: Endangered Musique kicks off with a high-quality reissue of an EP that deep house heads will either already know or soon grow to love. It was written by Jose Chinga in 1994 and is an alias of an artist better known as Brothers' Vibe aka Tony Rodriguez. The opening tune 'Love Is What You Need' is also the most well-known - it's US garage with low-slung drums and grainy pad work with a simple but effective vocal. 'I Got You' picks up the pace with shuffling drums and a grinding lead before the warm 90s house sounds come to the fore again on 'Let It Go' and 'Riding On A Cloud'. Lovely stuff.

Take You For A Ride (6:48)
Take You For A Ride (Mike Millrain mix) (6:14)
Move Your Body (Ross Couch mix) (6:15)
Move To The Groove (7:21)
Review: Plastik People boss Mark Cotterell keeps up the good form he sowed in 2022 with his first EP of 2023. It comes on Rhythm Vibe and features two more of his well-designed and well-swung garage-house groovers. 'Take You For A Ride' has choppy drums and hits with fresh piano stabs and soulful vocals and 'Move To The Groove' then gets a little deeper but with similar ingredients. A Ross Couch mix takes it into more airy and floaty territory while Mike Millrain's mix of 'Take You For A Ride' brings the 90s vibes.

D3U5E - "HAL9000" (4:37)
D3U5E - "Deckman" (3:54)
D3U5E & Gav - "The Abyss" (5:45)
Review: The always naughty Sneaker Social Club label taps up D3U5E for this fresh bass fiver tracker. It's a celebration of the UK's rich heritage of electronic music with the plunging bass and massive thwacking hits of 'Quasar' kicking off. There are dusty jungle breaks to 'Dust Particle', twisted dubstep contortions on 'HAL9000' and fizzing broken beats with a real urban menace on 'Deckman.' Closer 'The Abyss' is a collab with Gav that rides a more zoned-out and atmospheric groove and completes a varied and vital EP once more from this crucial underground label.

Take It EZ (4:31)
EZ Come (4:31)
EZ Go (4:58)
Z Luv (Mark Hawkins remix) (5:35)
Review: It's a rather remarkable 100 up for the Hot Haus label as EZ jam comes through with four fierce cuts of potent garage and house. The opener has a classic vocal sample reworked in an all new groove framework and sure to do plenty of damage. 'Take It EZ' is a more minimal and stripped out jungle rhythm with super quick, tight drum loops taking you ever higher. 'EZ Come' is another post-jungle affair with a flurry of drums, hurried drums and hits and a sense of urgency that you cannot escape. Last of all, the relentless Mark Hawkins remixes 'Z Luv' into a slamming minimal banger that eventually erupts on old school piano chords.

Closer Than Close (Frankie Classic club mix) (10:20)
Review: Rosie Gaines will also be synonymous with her smash hit single 'Closer Than Close' (also the name of her fifth album) which now gets reissued by the Demon Record Singles Club. Gaines actually started her career back in 1985 when she perfumed and recorded with The Curtis Ohlson Band but it was when she was a member of Prince & The New Power Generation that she really got noticed. Her Closer Than Close album came in 1995 and soon after she was dropped by Motown, but a remix of the title track a year so so later arrived in club land on bootleg and sold over eight million copies around the world.

Psycho Times (7:08)
Dusty Sound (7:36)
Review: Fans of traditional US house - and why wouldn't you be - will salivate over this new EP from the Plastik People label. It's a pure and feel-good four tracker steeped in New York style that brings those magic 90s vibes to the dance floor. First up is the warm and bouncy '4 Real' (937 main mix) with its dumpy kicks and humid organic chords, then 'Psycho Times' ups the pace with a nice grinding bassline and heavy US garage vibes in the chuffing kicks while 'Dusty Sound' owes a debt to the one and only Kerri Chandler for its lush and jazzy musicality. Timeless stuff.

Rain (6:04)
Artois (feat Denham Audio) (6:17)
So In Love (5:13)
Like This (4:07)
Review: Joe Koshin is a fixture of the Bristol UK garage scene, with his productions tending towards the breaksier ends of dark garage, avoiding the risk of being pigeonholed while still commanding full 'oi'-worthiness. The star track on his latest contribution to Hardline here is the Denham Audio collaboration 'Artois', in which a frenzied vocal sample gnashes at both earlobes, while the ghost of Lyn Collins scratches at our breakbeat receptors with a similar virulence. Things get choppier with the B-siders 'So In Love' and 'Like This', making this a well-rounded and playful EP for the far-more-curious diggers out there.

Xoul Trap (6:01)
Temptress (6:20)
Inertia (5:03)
Unorthodox (5:07)
Review: Londoner Otik has been about for a long while now, but his Aus Music debut signals some serious tack-change when it comes to putting true respect on the name of an artist who deserves it. 'Xoul Trap' not only references a Skyrim game mechanic, but delivers four Uk-funky-ish dream-heaters to either quench or ignite the soul, depending on one's inclinations in the dance. The haunting vocal chops and thunderous kicks of the title track, the shuffling chords and speaker-rattling subs of 'Temptress', the washed-out synthesis and pumping 4/4 of 'Inertia,' and the shimmering UK Funky inspo of 'Unorthodox' render this a solid top-up to the rep of UK dance music on the international stage.

95 Selection (4:38)
Gonna Be Alright (5:43)
Listen (5:31)
Review: Soul Mass Transit System is a UK garage duo, real names known only as Sam and Tom. 'The Big Speedy G One' is exactly what it says on the outer packaging; a big speedy speed garage quadruple selector, perfect for taking a certain eponymous drug to, of course. The EP is inspired by the pair's love for Bristol's music scene, evidently drawing on their own experiences of living in the city and the nascent revivalism for such genres as garage and jungle there that has seen to their rise. The tunes move between colossal and rave-sirenny, to clippy and soulful, with '95 Selection' recalling the love-bugged soul of Ramsay & Fen.

Heart (4:57)
Sending Our Love (Breakbeat mix) (5:04)
Review: NC4K blow the wannabes out of the park with this debut white label A/B-er from Stones Taro, the Japan-via-UK producer whose successful niche straddling garage and breakbeat has earned him many a release over the last few years or so. With the artist willing to take a chance on a new label (usually it's the other way around), he delivers two stonkers; the A-sider is a remix of 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart', while the latter is the real star of the show: a deeper, breakbeat-style version of a lesser-known r&b track, Zhane's 'Sending My Love'.

Lashes (6:13)
Overcome (7:25)
Intersection (6:24)
Celebrated Failure (6:42)
Review: This four-track splasher by Track & Trace (evidently a fan of the UK government's counter-pandemic policy, however ironically) makes an instant impression with its swung arpeggiations, listless garage structures and dreamy oeuvre. 'Intersection' sounds like something between Wen and Herbalizer, choosing a much cuter palette than most garage artists are willing to muster, for fear of their sound losing its 'darkness'. Speed garage/ house occupies much of the rest of the 12", with tracks such as 'Celebrated Failure' blending 4x4 heat with lush summertime garden chords and woozy phase effects.

Day Dream (4:54)
Perpetual Motion (5:23)
Review: Tuff Culture displaying a love of original UKG, back from the Sunday session days of the genre's infancy. 'Day Dream' has masterfully dry drums and hits and a classic vocal sample that packs in the soul. Smart filters and effects build tension before the big drop, gun fingers and pinging bass all explode to life. Irresistible. On the flip, 'Perpetual Motion' is another stripped-back, scuffed-up, low-key but high-impact garage shuffler with plenty of pent-up energy and a wicked Erykah Badu sample.

Review: Our love for Coco Bryce is well-documented on these pages. To get news of a new album from the legendary Dutch drum & bass producer, then, is, well, music to our ears. Computer Love is a double pack on his own label MYOR that explores downtempo sonic landscapes, deep drum & bass and occasional forays into UKG and breakbeat. It's a kaleidoscopic listen with meticulous craft in each tune and overflowing with fresh melodic ideas as well as his famous smart samples. Previously released singles 'Night Safari' and 'Trust Issues' are standouts amongst a slew of other more left-of-centre sounds.

Review: UK garage will never die and will always get any dancefloor pumping. It is just one of those genres that is so sweet and utterly and irresistible to all, which is no doubt why there are so many collections of the classics. Demon Records has assembled this collection featuring 24 cuts all bought together on four sides of vinyl for the very first time. It's fair to say these are massive, well-known tunes but they all still make a mark from artists including Shanks & Bigfoot, The Streets, Craig David, MJ Cole, Artful Dodger and Sunship.
