Good Love (reissue)
Cat: BK 051. Rel: 01 Jun 23
Good Love (vocal) (3:56)
Good Love (instrumental) (4:33)
Review: Proper boogie-funk stylee from Rome Jeffries, first recorded in 1983 as a paean to confident, smooth loving. The sultry mood of the song is backed by its cut-up claps, bouncy synth piques, and weighty veneer, which all went on to contribute to its later status as a sought-after diggers' slab. As much is ever-more evidenced on the instrumental B-side, which has an unprecedented - dare we say cheek-slapping - grit to it.

Get It Together: Exclusive Vinyl Only Official 45 Edits (limited hand-numbered 7" in Juno exclusive branded sleeve)

Get It Together (feat Vanessa Freeman - Yoshi's 45 edit) (4:26)
Get It Together (instrumental with Backing vocals - Robin Lee & Nik Weston 45 edit) (4:05)
Review: Long-serving Japanese nu-jazz collective Kyoto Jazz Massive is back in focus again after a cool outing featuring Roy Ayers back in February. This time they're on Mukatsuku with this limited edition and hand numbered 7" featuring a pair of new edits of their 'Get It Together' tune Featuring Vanessa Freeman. The first is from Yoshi and is a glorious bit of big disco energy with diva vocals and sumptuous chord stabs. The second is an instrumental with backing vocals which then gets edited by Robin Lee & Nik Weston into something a little more free, loose and cosmic.

Magnum - "Squivatch" (short version) (5:19)
Golden Voice & CJ & Kid Bee Rock - "Mixmaster" (5:47)
Magnum - "Squivatch" (Full version) (7:56)
Review: Way back in 1981, legendary Bronx producer Bullwackie - an exiled Jamaican famous for founding the influential, boundary-blurring, reggae-rooted Wackies imprint - launched a new label named after his daughter, Shevone. It released just one record, a now sought-after - and impossible to find 12" containing a trio of early NYC hip-hop cuts informed by his own dub and dancefloor reggae productions. This Backatcha reissue boasts both cuts from the original 12", plus the never-heard-before shortened version of 'Squivatch', a hybrid disco-rap/disco-reggae number rich in rubbery slap bass, pleasingly loose-limbed drums, squally electric guitar riffs, heavy horns and delay effects aplenty. That's best enjoyed in its full-length version form, which includes more production trickery from Bullwackie. 'Master Mix', meanwhile, is a subtly dubby, synth-sporting formative hip-hop gem featuring a rap crew who later enjoyed success as Chapter III.

Doing Our Own Thing
Doing Our Own Thing (Dimitri From Paris remix part 1) (5:01)
Doing Our Own Thing (Dimitri From Paris remix part 2) (4:57)
Review: Monsieur Dimitri from Paris works his magic on Casbah 73's organic disco grooves with a remix treatment that surpasses all expectations. Casbah's original track may sound like a band-recorded take with added production sheen, but it's actually a deceptively well-made track recorded by a talented solo artist. Dimitri brings added wompy disco-house heat to the track in two parts, with the first part focusing on the more bangerific elements of the original, and the B (part two) stripping things back to focus on the more minimal, solo dubby parts.

A7 Edits Volume 6
Ekambi Brillant - "Afrika Afrika" (John Talabot & Pional Lost Script Rerub) (6:29)
Gyedu Blay Ambolley - "Highlife" (Alan Dixon edit) (5:59)
Michael Amara - "New Bell" (Jacques Renault edit) (5:53)
Pasteur Lappe - "Na Real Sekele Fo' Ya" (Escapade edit) (5:59)
Review: Africa Seven's A7 Edits offshoot has already proved to be one of the better re-edit series around, primarily because they consistently employ some of the best re-editors in the business, offering them the opportunity to select tracks they want to rework from the parent label's vast catalogue of licensed cuts. This edition - the seventh EP to date - is another action-packed winner. Rising star Alan Dixon delivers a lightly tooled-up, all-action revision of Gyedu Bley Amadou's tropical disco classic 'Highlife', before Barcelona-based John Talabot and Pional re-frame Ekambi Brilliant's 'Afrika Afrika' as a kind of Afro-post-punk/dub disco mash-up. Over on side B, Escapade dances through a bouncy disco-house take on Pasteur Lappe's 'Na Real Sekele Fo Ya', while Jacques Renault expertly rearranges Michael Amara's Afro-disco-funk staple 'New Bell'.

Review: First released back in 2011, When We On was the sixth album from the Nottingham-formed Crazy P. Most significantly, however, it features songs that went on to become signature tracks for the band's live performances, including 'Heartbreaker', 'Open For Service' and 'Eruption', delicately balanced by more home listening experiences like 'Changes', 'Beatbox' and 'wecanonlybewhoweare'. Since its first and only original vinyl pressing, it's been commanding increasingly huge amounts on the second hand market, so time for 20/20 Vision to step in and re-issue complete with the original masters, Victoria Topping artwork and Bandcamp code that gives access to the full 11 track digital album as well as the vinyl. Essential for fans of the P, but also a good starting point for the curious, falling about half way through their history and at the start of a particularly purple patch.

Disco Made Me Do It Volume 6

Jaegerossa - "It's The Same" (6:38)
Kathy Brown & Jet Boot Jack - "Thief In The Night" (Birdee remix) (7:28)
Invisible Yams Band - "Take U Home" (7:15)
Review: 'Disco Made Me Do It: Vol 6' is a fresh V/A of disco and nu-disco tracks released by Riot, UK partybringers who specialize in disco edits and remixes - all with an effortless, clean sheen. This comp's got four tracks by different artists: the opener 'Spread Love' comes as an extended gospel mix by Sense Of Sound Singers, laying down an unbridled, heavy-set vibe of hope. Meanwhile, continuers like Jaegerossa's 'It's The Same' and Birdee's mix of Kathy Brown / Jet Boot Black's 'Thief In The Night' are instantly compelling, upping the sultry factor and French house intonations.

Ha-Ya (Eternal Life) (5:02)
Review: The one and only Mr K sure does know how to cook up a masterful edit. Here he heads into gospel territory with the latest 7" in Most Excellent Unlimited's collaborations with him. Both of these tunes are appearing on 7" vinyl for the first time here and have long been staples of the sets of Danny Krivit. His 'Churchapella' edit of Madonna's 'Like A Prayer' is as holy and steamy as it gets with the whole thing sure to uplift and energise any crowd. On the backside is a superb edit of the Clark Sisters slinky rare groove gem 'Ha-Ya (Eternal Life).' It's a slightly slower tune but one that makes just as much of an impact.

Review: We're told that the Hot Pot label has been specially resurrected to put out these jams from the one and only former Slum Village DJ, Mahogany Music artist, hip-hop head and house don that is Dez Andres. They are some of the edits and reworks he has been playing out on the circuit in his Detroit hometown and they get pressed up nice and loud here on fresh wax. First up he reworks a stone-cold classic with a distinctive Latin house twang while on the flip, his signature boom-bap drum work defines another killer groove. Super stuff as ever from the man.

Review: Spacetalk Records returns from a period of hibernation with something special: a new collection of ultra-rare, little-known nuggets from label co-founder Danny McLewin AKA Skyrager. Unlike his previous compilations as part of Psychemagik, there's no killer concept behind Traces of Illusion, just a desire to share some of the dusty obscurities he's found during years of determined crate digging. Musically, it's a mixture of psychedelic folk, leftfield synth-pop oddities, blue-eyed soul, acid-fried blue-eyed soul, Balearic boogie, Americana, ambient jazz, AOR, late 80s dancehall-soul and even a spot of grizzled progressive rock. In other words, it's as educational as it is entertaining, and packed to the rafters with private press treats and impossible-to-find curiosities.

Step Out (feat Taliwa - Shuya Okino edit) (4:48)
Review: DJ Kawasaki went big on love performances with his last album One World back in 2021 and the resulting tunes mixed up fine house vibrations infused with immaculate jazz-funk instrumentation. He is back now and in top-notch form with a new 7" for At Home Sound in Japan. There is more of a disco feel to this one with the cosmically minded 'It's Your World' kick off on the a-side and then the just as good but differently groovy 'Step Out' taking care of the b-side.

Review: From the dedicated Neopolitan archivists Periodica comes a holy grail reissue of a deep cover, highly coveted release from 1983. The groove on Tonino Balsamo's 'Sta Guagliona Mo Dda' is an absolute neck-snapper, with the toughest drum machine beat carrying slinky b-lines and slick synth lines alike while Balsamo flows in a semi-rap style over the top. It's a monster given a fresh master to cut it with any modern jam you care to throw its way in the mix, and the instrumental is on hand for those who want to zero in on that throbbing arpeggio. Also watch out for the dirty beatdown 'Voglia E Mare', which lays the synths on even thicker.

Review: Berlin-based Voodoocuts knows how to mix up floor-filing sounds from across a range of genres and eras. Now the sonic shapeshifter serves up a first EP for Adeen that packs in five killer cuts. 'La Culebra' kicks off with big horns and Latin rhythms which carry on through the dance-heavy 'Mi Amor'. 'B-boy Paco' completes the first side of vinyl with lively rhythms, horn stabs and florid Spanish vocals. 'Que Rico' kicks off on the flip with another dense arrangement packed with cowbells, funky bass riffs, woodblock hits, shakers and plenty more. 'Linda Negra' is a sleazy yet seductive samba shuffle that brings the heat and will get any party heated up.

Review: The FunkyJaws Music label invites us deep into their world for a third time here with another delicious 12".It's a various artists EP that features one of our top disco favourites - Eddie C. He opens up with 'Do You Wanna Dance' which has vocals pacing about the mix and old school acid bass twangs under raw house drums. Elado's '25.4 Millimeters' is a Middle Eastern funk workout with spangled drum hits and the flip side brings twisted acid disco and the cosmic trip that is 'In Your Ear With It' from Funkyjaws themselves.

Review: This one does what it says the tin. Both label and artist are called Jackin Disco, so you know what you're in for here. Following up a debut array of EPs and singles of a similar nature, this one drops two throwbacks to disco's most timeless sample threads. The A proffers the hard-edged original version of Modjo's 'Hear Me Tonight' in full quality, while the B provides us a history lesson with the more serene Chic song 'Soup For One', the guitar riff for which is sampled by the Modjo track.

Passion (Ben Liebrand Classic remix) (6:06)
Passion (Midnight remix) (5:33)
Review: Produced by the great Bobby Orlando, 'Passion' by the Flirts is a New York-made early '80s classic that was in part inspired by the heavily electronic sound of European disco music. It was highly influential, too, inspiring a wave of dance-loving synth-pop acts including, most famously, the Pet Shop Boys. These tasteful new mixes subtly update the track for 2023 while retaining much of what made the original such a killer. Check first the A-side 'Sweet N Simple Mix', a slightly housed-up take that otherwise sticks closely to the original script, before flipping to Ben Liebrand's superior (and pleasingly synth-laden) 'Oldskool Mix'. The rubbery, shuffling, New Jersey deep house style 'Midnight Mix' completes a solid package of reworks.

Double Dee - "Found Love" (feat Dany - Dimitri From Paris remix edit) (3:27)
Jestofunk - "Say It Again" (Micky More & Andy Tee remix edit) (4:29)
Review: For the latest instalment of the label's occasional seven-inch series, Groove Culture has decided to offer up fresh takes on classic Italian house hits. On side A, the legendary Dimitri From Paris gets his mitts on Double Dee's 1990 number 'Found Love', re-imagining it as a colourful blend of rubbery nu-disco and hands-in-the-air piano house that rightly places Dany's recognisable lead vocal front and centre. Flip for label chiefs' Micky More and Andy Tee's take on Jestofunk's 1993 classic 'Say It Again'. Like much of their work, the Italian duo's translation blurs the boundaries between funk-fuelled house and revivalist disco, with flanged, occasionally bluesy guitars, strung-out synth solos and energy-packed sax lines catching the ear.

Review: French label Act Of Sedition returns this week with another splendid 7' double pack. A1 is Mikeandtess with a nice edit titled 'Preacher Man' that's seriously Dusty and slo-mo as you like it, while Oldchap's 'Big At The Jazz Club' chugs along just as slowly with its locomotive and jazzy groove with rap vocals. They offer up four edits from the world of disco starting with the driving and striding 'Disco 4 A Non-Nuclear Future' with its expansive vocal and big string energy. Bananas (5:02)
Funk Rail (3:19)
Review: Well, we know absolutely nothing about this brand new edits label, nor the artist behind it, so in wonderfully cliched fashion, the music is left to do the talking. What we do know is that Harri Pierson must have a penchant for classic house because that's the vibe of the A-side 'Bananas'. It has retro-future vibes, a pitched-up rave vocal, and lively piano chords over shiny metallic drums. It's a real bouncer with hints of Italo madness, then 'Funk Rail' is a more worldly affair with Indian-sounding melodies, rich layers of instrumental funk and jostling, loose-limbed drums. What a scorcher.

But if you need to know more, on this 12" for Z Records he's taking on the Russian band Leonid & Friends and their cover of 'Street Player' by Chicago. Review: There's no secret to the success of Late Nite Tuff Guy's long-running Tuff Cuts series. Buyers have simply responded to the consistency of the Australian producer's approach, and the quality of loopy, house-friendly re-edits. This eighth volume features more party-starting fare, from the glassy-eyed extended breakdown of "Go For That" (yep, a Hall & Oates rework) and soft-touch house take on Marvin Gaye ("Heard It"), to the end-of-night bliss of "Dreams", a decidedly warm and rolling rearrangement of the famous Fleetwood Mac cut of the same name. As if that wasn't enough bangers in one place, he finishes with a triumphant rework of disco-era Michael Jackson ("Starting Something").

Down By The Rio (Frakas mix) (6:00)
Down By The Rio (Julien Dyne mix) (6:09)
Review: Composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Frank Harris has enjoyed a long and varied career. During the 1980s, he was one of the world's most esteemed Synclavier synthesiser programmers, and also recorded extensively with singer-songwriter Maria Marquez - though it took until 2019 for much of that music to be released (on the album Echoes). This 12" boasts fresh reworks of tracks from that set. Frankie Deluxe handles side A, first delivering a deliciously slow-burn revision of 'Loveroom' - all sparse, undulating synth melodies, whispers of percussion and beautiful lead vocals - before offering up a seductively summery shuffle through the samba-seeped shuffle of 'Down By The Rio'. That track is twice more remixed on the flip. First Frakas supplies a tactile, deep Balearic nu-disco tweak, before Julian Dyne offers up a deep, dubbed-out, slow-motion house take.

'Free People' and 'Save The Dance' are really re-edits, but a cursory listen might lead one to believe they'd been lifted from vinyl for the first time. The kind of thing you might find in the 'in-house' record collection at a late 80s nightclub, these are stringy, joyous and sunbeaten forays through instrumental and vocal house respectively.

Don't You Worry Baby The Best Is Yet To Come (part 2)
Review: Eight years ago, Super Weird Substance unveiled a cover of Bessie Banks' classic 'Don't You Worry Baby The Best Is Yet To Come' - a hybrid nu-disco/classic soul interpretation that was credited to The Reynolds (twin sisters according to press releases circulated at the time), but produced and mixed by Greg Wilson and regular studio buddy Peza. This timely reissue marks the first time the track has appeared on a 45. Just like many classic soul sevens, it features 'Part 1' and 'Part 2' versions, which seem to be edits of the near nine-minute 'club mix' that appeared on the original 12" release. Both are great, with the Reynolds' gorgeous vocals being joined by rubbery synth-bass, simmering synth-strings, tasteful synth-horns and unfussy, floor-friendly drums.

Review: There were few finer labels for disco back in the day than New York's Prelude. To this day their output stands up so whenever any of it gets reissued we are on it like Sonic. Sharon Redd was one of the vital voices of her era and here her classic 'Never Give You Up' gets put out with some remixes from Michael Grey. The first one speeds up the drums and flattens out the groove to make for a proto-house, then the dub mix pairs things back to the bare essentials. The original is the most flamboyant and disco tinged while the Tribute Mix is a perfect mix of everything.

Finger On The Trigger (4:37)
Crazy In Kingston (7 Inch rework) (4:04)
Review: On the second volume in the GATT edits series, Swedish scalpel fiend Beatconductor once again pairs a previously unheard rework with something sought-after from his catalogue. In the latter category you'll find flipside 'Crazy in Kingston', an early noughties mash-up that adds Beyonce's superb lead vocals (and Jay-Z's on-point rap verse) from the peerless 'Crazy in Love' with a dusty old reggae riddim. It's a simple idea, beautifully executed. The brand-new (or at least previously unheard) cut this time around is 'Finger on the Trigger', a lolloping, life-affirming tweak of a 1970s dancefloor soul number that sits somewhere between the stomping heaviness of Detroit Soul and the proto-disco deliciousness of Philly Soul.

50th Release Special
Giman & Chic Ago - "The Job"
Magnolia - "Never Give Up On Love" (feat Venessa Jackson)
Luke Delite - "Give Me Your Love" (feat Michelle Weeks)
Generoco - "In The Music" (feat Karmina Dai - Hotmood remix)
Foot Loose - "Nah That's Ross Kemp"
Sean Den - "Ain't No Love"
Review: To mark the label's 50th release, the Disco Express imprint has put together a six-track missive packed to the rafters with high-grade disco club cuts. Side A begins with the bouncy, low-slung disco-funk-goes-disco-house heaviness of Giman & Chic Ago's edit-not-edit gem 'The Job', before Vanessa Jackson handles lead vocals on Magnolia's 21st century disco sing-along 'Never Give Up On Love' and the legendary Michelle Weeks performs the same role on Luke Delite's celebratory and nostalgic, Salsoul-esque 'Give Me Your Love'. The fun continues on the flip, where Hotmood blurs the boundaries between chunky deep house and nu-disco on a fine revision of Generoco's 'In The Music', Foot Loose serves up the sun-splashed joy of 'Nah That's Ross Kemp', and Sean Den stomps his way through the heavy disco-house pressure of 'Ain't No Love'.

Free Spirit (Divine Situation Downlow rework) (5:05)
Free Spirit (Divine Situation Maceos dub mix) (4:56)
Review: Betty Griffin's 'Free Spirit' gets served up as two new remixed versions in honour of the 10 Year Anniversary of Greg Belson's noteworthy radio show, Divine Chord Gospel Show on Dub Lab. Greg himself joins up with Paulo Fulci as Divine Situation to add their own special fire to the already hot originals. Their first Downlow rework rides on some psyched-out guitar lines with the chunky, percussive rhythms riding rough below. Then, on the flip, the Maceo's dub is more smooth, streamlined and cosmic with its widescreen synth lines.

Chez Madame La Baronne
Chez Madame La Baronne (Idjut Boys Fazz Junk version)
Review: Earlier this year, French disco and jazz-funk combo Chatobaron joined forces with fellow Parisian Dimitri From Paris for the rather good 'I Like (The Music That You Play)'. While that was a wholehearted disco workout, this speedy sequel sees the band (and their high-profile collaborator) explore their West Coast jazz-funk influences via an inspired workout full to bursting with killer instrumental solos, dusty grooves, memorable motifs and a genuinely killer, cowbell-sporting percussion brerak. This time round, there are no Dimitri From Paris remixes; instead, dubbed-out disco favourites the Idjut Boys are on hand to smother the track in tape echo and dub delay. The result is a typically spaced-out, low-slung affair that naturally makes the most of the band's killer bassline and layered percussion sounds.

Midnight Express - "Danger Zone" (3:47)
Robbie M - "I Need Good Lovin'" (5:15)
Review: DC-based label Peoples Potential Unlimited aka PPU is a real favourite for us here. It's got a signature lo-fi funk sound and deals in perfectly ageless sounds with a big heart. Robbie M has been a frequent name in the label's catalogue and is back on this new 7" next to Midnight Express. The latter kicks off with big cosmic disco synths, hip-swinging claps and great vocals. Robbie M's brilliantly boogie-fried 80s electro-funk then appears in the form of 'I Need Good Lovin'' with its seductive vocals and catchy broken beats.

Review: Mysterious edits pushers Discotecas worship a mysterious figure known as 'Gwen', the artist supposedly responsible for making these EPs. Their second instalment here comes in the form of a laid-back, electro-balearic affair replete with several layers of bass guitar, lolling synth and acoustic-mimicking percs. A remix of Sade's 'Paradise' leads the charge, centring her harmonious vocals at the core of the mix, while two further unknown re-edits cement the overall nine minute disco vibe.

You Got What It Takes (The Reflex Revision) (10:02)
You Got What It Takes (12" mix) (9:32)
You Got What It Takes (instrumental) (7:43)
Review: Bobby Thurston's 'You Got What It Takes' is a soaring, spiralling disco classic whose , squelchy synth-bass and highly addictive horn refrains are not only instantly familiar, but also never fail to raise the temperature out on the dancefloor. This coloured vinyl reissue, released as part of Unidisc's ongoing 40th anniversary series, offers up both the original 12" mixes (vocal and instrumental), as well as a fresh, stretched-out rework from re-edit master the Reflex that's worth the admission price on its own. He naturally makes the most of the original's key elements, building up the groove before unleashing Thurston's vocals, the celebratory horn riffs and - most pleasingly - the track's spacey, life-affirming synth solo.

Don't Look (7:29)
Review: It has been a bit of a while since we heard from edit king and seductive groove maker Late Nite Tuff Guy. Thankfully now he is back after his hiatus with more of his brilliance in the form of a third entry into his Soul Cut series. He brings his magic fingers to a pair of dazzlers here, with a hearrt-wrenching version of a latter yaers Motown anthem, with a modern update that leaves the original vocals in place but adds a little more drum weight. On the flip, 'Don't Look' is a much more smoochy and seductive late-night sound for cosy dances.

LF System - "Afraid To Feel" (extended mix with DJ Friendly intro) (4:35)
Silk - "Can't Stop Turning You On" (MM edit) (3:51)
Review: Rising duo LF System is a Scottish production duo consisting of Conor Larkman and Sean Finnigan. They provided the definitive funky house summer anthem last year called 'Afraid To Feel' which samples the 1979 song from American funk group Silk, 'I Can't Stop' (Turning You On). This version is a much appreciated extended mix with a DJ friendly intro. Over on the flip, they pay credit to the original with the MM edit of this absolutely sensual number, that still holds its own to this day some 43 years on.

Review: Since emerging last autumn, Newcastle-based Hot Biscuit Recordings has dropped a clutch of fine re-edit releases, mostly (though not entirely) courtesy of Chicago legend Rahaan. Here DJ Nature (AKA NYC-based exiled Bristolian Milo Johnson, once a founder member of the legendary Wild Bunch soundsystem) gets his chance to shine across a must-check double-pack. He first delivers a weighty, loopy, dancefloor dub style rearrangement of a suspenseful and low-slung disco treat ('Feel Dub'), before delivering a scalpel style edit of a string-laden disco-soul number ('Disco Power') and expertly stretching out a sensual, low-slung Fatback Band classic ('Midnite Freak'). To round things off, he lightly dubs out a shuffling disco groover ('Want Your Loving') and delivers a heavy take on a Windy City disco classic ('Chi-Town Theme').

Move (5:20)

Take It (5:54)
Always Forever (8:14)
Review: The freshest 12" Balearic vinyl release on the block comes courtesy of Discotecas, a label who prefer to home in on underground house and Balearic edits. The release features four tracks: 'Move', 'Like Syrup', 'Take It' and 'Always Forever', all of which are essentially lost vestiges of well-known songs. Some parts are genuine edits, sometimes they aren't and instead function as made-from-scratch imitations, but that's part of the art. Whether or not they're built on wholly original samples is superfluous - as long as the tracks pique the brain's deja-vu receptors, as they do with, their slap-basses, clavey shakers, and sultry beachside vocals, then we're good.

Mount Juniper (4:50)
Review: Eddie Logix makes his return to Rocksteady Disco fold with this fresh new 12", 'Flight Risk'. It's a varied affair that pulls from a wide range of genres including leftfield, deep house, disco, Afrobeat, and even Balearic. Some of these tunes have already been picking up high-profile support from the likes of Leo Mas, Chris Coco and Danny Krivit - no wonder given that his last on the label sold out immediately. 'Sky Dive' is a nice loose limbed funky deep disco jam, 'Home Suite' has a superb new age flute lead and 'Missing Pixels' is a tribal Afro dancer. 'Mount Juniper' is the lively and tropical house number that has you dreaming of cocktails by the sea.

Why (4:26)
Review: In cahoots with legendary Japanese record store Jet Set, Freestyle Records has decided to offer-up a 45 featuring two tidy cuts from Lance Ferguson's Rare Groove Spectrum 2 album, a second set of inspired cover versions from the multi-instrumentalist, bandleader and producer. On side A the Melbourne-based musician gives his take on Azymuth classic 'Veo Sobre O Horizonte', re-imaging it as a starry, vintage synth-laden shuffle through sun-baked South American jazz-funk complete with woozy horns, Herbie Hancock keyes and eyes-closed female vocalizations. On the reverse Ferguson turns his hand to Carly Simon's 'Why', adding gorgeous horn solos and sunset-ready flourishes to a faithful re-recording of the reggae-influenced number's familiar groove.

You Bring Out The Best In Me (4:46)
All Night Long (4:52)
Review: Originally released in 1983 on Evergreen Records, the D.I.T. Band's split 7" 'You Bring Out The Best In Me' has been remastered and reissued for a new generation of fans - needless to say, that hardly detracts from both songs' appeal, which need no second introduction. A Prince-like funk snappiness is central to the tracks, nailing the ultra-swung mood of early '80s funk with its oohs and aoows - clearly, the aim is to make you scream, "tight!" For those who like it snappy, futuristic, and rare, this one's for you.
