However, anything more than a cursory listen will reveal it to be a mixed-emotive, wistful affair, with the Jamaican reggae once more asserting his reflective, rootsy style to diagnose both the ills and joys of the nation - "Jamaica, Jamaica... the country need a doctor, people". Three Lewisham friends, Angela Richardson on lead vocals, with Geselle and Janie backing, were active from 1982 to 1990, but are really remembered for the early recordings made with Neville King. Their debut, Everything Is Fine rides the Lovers sound at its peak. Written with One Blood's Lloyd Robinson, with the rest of band of Robinson brothers providing the rhythm section, this is pure South London sound system music.
Recorded again at TMC (Tooting Music Centre) Recording Studios - working alongside the likes of Dillinger, Tradition and New Musik - Everything Is Fine rides a beautiful soul reggae rhythm as Trevor (Drums) and Lloyd (Bass) Robinson set the foundations, while One Blood provide the Dub mix.

Review: Since making his debut at the tail end of the last decade, J Gabriel has delighted in blurring the boundaries between electronic dub, deep house, dub techno and minimal. Here he's in full-on dub mode, with Scientist handling mixing duties for extra authenticity and a typically spaced-out sound. The original Scientist mix, which features the honeyed vocals of Vaughan Benjamin, wraps an alluring, head-nodding digi-dub groove in echoing electronics and crisp guitar motifs, while the 'Dub' offers a more skeletal rhythm, space echo and tape delay aplenty. Review: Here comes Objekt #5 from Objekt's Objekt label and it's another subversive transmission from the edges of the dancefloor. 'Bad Apples' is a mid-tempo affair that locks you in a state of suspense as the unsettling rhythms and modular synth sounds meltdown all around. It's cinematic and predatory, almost, with its lurching bass and hits. 'Ballast' on the flip gets more lively with prickly and twitchy synth textures, punchy drum work and pads designed to frazzle the brain. This hand-stamped 12" also includes a digital download.

Review: Pampidoo's dancehall classic 'Synthesizer Voice' is a first release in 2023 for the returning Rhythm Discs, and what a tune it is. It has been specially remastered for this occasion but has lost none of the realness and rawness. It has a guttural and gravelly vocal that is full of sleaze over steel-plated drums and clean digital chords. On the flip, Dutchman and famously prolific producer Legowelt remixes. His slowed-down version is heavier on the dub and melon-twisted FX so is perfect for heavy smoker sessions. A great reissue that will shift fast so make sure you're faster.

Review: Manu Chao & Chalart58's Inna Reggae Style celebrates the roots of reggae in this new albumin Barcelona-based label La Panchita Records. It is delightfully sunny and upbeat, with the Spanish language vocals bringing a different perspective to the rolling rhythms we all know and love. The musicianship is top-notch, too, with horns, percussion and more all aided by a little Latin flair. High Paw, Josep Blanes and Sr Wilson are amongst some of the guests on the mic.

Review: Milan's Simone Trabucchi, whom we know by the name of Dracula Lewis thanks to a rich catalogue of related material, launches his new STILL moniker on Berlin's unfailingly explorative PAN label. The result, however, is something we haven't been exposed to before and, for Italian electronic music, it marks a fascinating new journey into the 'outernational' realm. Each one of these 9 sonic experiments is made up of peculiar ethnic blends that span from Rastafarian culture to Pan-Asian influences; most of them are tagged as 'riddims', attempting to form new and visceral forms of futuristic sound-system culture for the next century. We're not kidding when we say that this is the first time in a while that we've heard something genuinely different, genre-blending and in a sense, utterly mystifying. Dancehall is in all of these tunes' DNA, but the execution is peppered with all sorts of sci-fi-leaning tricks and electronics, making it the perfect sort of material for fans of both dance music cultures. Don't sleep on this one. It's another nutty episode of PAN.

Review: The Banoffee Pies reissue series is back with a quick follow up to the last one with another set of crucial tunes from the Euphonic archives. The London duo made up of producer Rob Henry and former Graffiti artist turned DJ Nick Trimm were big player sin the 90s and worked with various key players in the dub scene. 'Revolution Solution' was recorded in New York with friends from the underground hip hop scene, Dr. Israel, Soothsayer and Kirsty Rock, and is a superb ragga jungle tune. 'Space In My Soul' is a gloriously cosmic bit of synth laced broken beat and then there's a trio of heady beat workouts including the downbeat outer space trip that is '7 Orbits.'

Review: Culture began his career in the dancehall while still at school and his rare ability even at that age led teachers to advise him to pursue a career in the Jamaican recording industry. He soon went on to pick up plenty of tips and tricks from working with King Tubby before establishing his own name. He even moved to London for a while and continued to hone his craft and "How Long" proved to be one his biggest success along side "After So Many Years" and "Original Days." It's a still futuristic sounding cut with sci-fi effects and crisp hits as well as that trademark vocal work.
