Take You For A Ride (Mike Millrain mix) (6:14)
Move Your Body (Ross Couch mix) (6:15)
Move To The Groove (7:21)
Review: Plastik People boss Mark Cotterell keeps up the good form he sowed in 2022 with his first EP of 2023. It comes on Rhythm Vibe and features two more of his well-designed and well-swung garage-house groovers. 'Take You For A Ride' has choppy drums and hits with fresh piano stabs and soulful vocals and 'Move To The Groove' then gets a little deeper but with similar ingredients. A Ross Couch mix takes it into more airy and floaty territory while Mike Millrain's mix of 'Take You For A Ride' brings the 90s vibes.

Love Is What You Need (6:21)
I Got You (5:03)
Let It Go (5:44)
Riding On A Cloud (4:52)
Review: Endangered Musique kicks off with a high-quality reissue of an EP that deep house heads will either already know or soon grow to love. It was written by Jose Chinga in 1994 and is an alias of an artist better known as Brothers' Vibe aka Tony Rodriguez. The opening tune 'Love Is What You Need' is also the most well-known - it's US garage with low-slung drums and grainy pad work with a simple but effective vocal. 'I Got You' picks up the pace with shuffling drums and a grinding lead before the warm 90s house sounds come to the fore again on 'Let It Go' and 'Riding On A Cloud'. Lovely stuff.

4 Real (937 main mix) (9:19)
Psycho Times (7:08)
Dusty Sound (7:36)
Review: Fans of traditional US house - and why wouldn't you be - will salivate over this new EP from the Plastik People label. It's a pure and feel-good four tracker steeped in New York style that brings those magic 90s vibes to the dance floor. First up is the warm and bouncy '4 Real' (937 main mix) with its dumpy kicks and humid organic chords, then 'Psycho Times' ups the pace with a nice grinding bassline and heavy US garage vibes in the chuffing kicks while 'Dusty Sound' owes a debt to the one and only Kerri Chandler for its lush and jazzy musicality. Timeless stuff.

4 One Another (Marley Sherman remix) (6:41)
Uplift (feat Dunique) (5:59)
Uplift (feat Dunique - South Shore Garage remix) (7:04)
Review: Like a US house producers' version of the fabled grime MC battle competition 'Lord of the Mics', Brawther and Chez Damier came up with the idea of a producer contest to bring together the members of the Interweaved community, with the winners of the first round of submissions sharing their stems with the rest of the community, inviting remixes.
French born Roy Vision received the most votes in the online poll for his track '4 One Another' - a house bomb full of sub-bass pressure, craftily employed vocals and deft drum programming. The original is featured here, alongside mixes from Australian underground hero Marley Sherman, who took the trophy for his uplifting remix. London Based DJ Rouge, meanwhile hails from Ireland but loves original Italian deep house of yesteryear, and his offering was the second most voted work and is included here, slower and more wistful but still chunky in the beats department, with Dunique's spoken word part adding a quietly philosophical dimension to both the original and chirpy, cheery sounding mix from Montreal wonderkid South Shore Garage.

Shout (6:54)
Remember (6:44)
Review: Constant Sound co-owner James 'Burnski' Burnham delivers a stonking pair of garage-flecked house tracks that offer up no nonsense dancefloor attitude in spades. 'Shout' is all about its monster rhythmic framework, with economic splashes of synths on the side simply maintaining the flavour and a properly full on old skool breakdown. Flip track 'Remember' leans a little further towards UK garage with its sugar sweet female vocal snippets, but the central groove hustles and bustles along with maximum weightiness, making it suitable for any number of differing dancefloors.

Day Dream (4:54)
Perpetual Motion (5:23)
Review: Tuff Culture displaying a love of original UKG, back from the Sunday session days of the genre's infancy. 'Day Dream' has masterfully dry drums and hits and a classic vocal sample that packs in the soul. Smart filters and effects build tension before the big drop, gun fingers and pinging bass all explode to life. Irresistible. On the flip, 'Perpetual Motion' is another stripped-back, scuffed-up, low-key but high-impact garage shuffler with plenty of pent-up energy and a wicked Erykah Badu sample.

Celebrated Failure (6:42)
Review: This four-track splasher by Track & Trace (evidently a fan of the UK government's counter-pandemic policy, however ironically) makes an instant impression with its swung arpeggiations, listless garage structures and dreamy oeuvre. 'Intersection' sounds like something between Wen and Herbalizer, choosing a much cuter palette than most garage artists are willing to muster, for fear of their sound losing its 'darkness'. Speed garage/ house occupies much of the rest of the 12", with tracks such as 'Celebrated Failure' blending 4x4 heat with lush summertime garden chords and woozy phase effects.

Review: Joe Koshin is a fixture of the Bristol UK garage scene, with his productions tending towards the breaksier ends of dark garage, avoiding the risk of being pigeonholed while still commanding full 'oi'-worthiness. The star track on his latest contribution to Hardline here is the Denham Audio collaboration 'Artois', in which a frenzied vocal sample gnashes at both earlobes, while the ghost of Lyn Collins scratches at our breakbeat receptors with a similar virulence. Things get choppier with the B-siders 'So In Love' and 'Like This', making this a well-rounded and playful EP for the far-more-curious diggers out there.

Gabriel (Words To Give By) (7:22)
Review: Is there a more positive, soulful and life-affirming dancefloor anthem out there than Roy Davis Jr and Peven Everett's 1996 jam "Gabriel"? As many will be aware, it has long been sought of as a classic, with soulful house, deep house, US and UK garage DJs all championing it back in the day. This white vinyl reissue boasts all of the mixes featured on the original 12". Perhaps the most famous version is the rolling, bass-heavy two-step flex of the "Live Garage" mix that opens side B, but there's plenty to set the pulse racing elsewhere. The driving, jazzy-but-stomping "Words To Give By" version has been annoyingly overlooked over the years, while the "Tambourine Dub" is deliciously sweaty and driving in the best possible way.

Review: Since joining forces as Soul Mass Transit System a couple of years ago, Baby J and D Jason have released a wealth of club-ready 12" singles, many of which explore their love of vintage UK garage. This EP on Vivid is a little more eclectic but no less celebratory or peak-time ready. For proof, check saucer-eyed opener 'Set You Free', where giddy old school piano stabs, stretched-out sub-bass and spinetingling female vocal samples ride a rolling breakbeat, and the revivalist hardcore hedonism of the ludicrously bass-heavy 'Nah Nah Nah'. They doff a cap to their bassline roots on crunchy breakbeat roller 'Phat Booty', before drawing a fine EP toa close with the two-step-goes-Niche heaviness of 'Smoke'.

Review: Londoner Otik has been about for a long while now, but his Aus Music debut signals some serious tack-change when it comes to putting true respect on the name of an artist who deserves it. 'Xoul Trap' not only references a Skyrim game mechanic, but delivers four Uk-funky-ish dream-heaters to either quench or ignite the soul, depending on one's inclinations in the dance. The haunting vocal chops and thunderous kicks of the title track, the shuffling chords and speaker-rattling subs of 'Temptress', the washed-out synthesis and pumping 4/4 of 'Inertia,' and the shimmering UK Funky inspo of 'Unorthodox' render this a solid top-up to the rep of UK dance music on the international stage.

Rolling at a cool mid-tempo, loaded with space, bulging with subs and swaggering with rolling breaks, both 'Fighting Fools' and 'My Life' hit with ageless dancefloor charm. Review: Back in 1994 UK garage was still in an embryonic stage, with the bumping US sound still defining the style even as a darker, moodier strain was starting to come through. From the legendary Nice n Ripe crew came this 12" of heavyweight pressure, and while the G.O.D. tag wound up being used by other producers, on this Limited release it was the work of Grant Nelson and Si Firmin. The A side cut 'Inside Your Mind' is an intense, heads down workout which nods to the likes of Chez N Trent, while 'To The Beat' bring a rougher vibe with mammoth subs and manic sampling that points to the future in no uncertain terms.

Hardlife (Aaron Carl remix) (5:05)
Review: Some two decades after it first slipped out of Underground Resistance's Motor City studio and into record stores worldwide, one of UR's most magnificent moments has been given a deserved reissue. Largely produced by 044 (real name Gerald Mitchell) and featuring vocals from one of his relatives (one Ron Mitchell), 'Hardlife' is not so much a sci-fi techno anthem as a mid-90s US garage/soulful house workout with sparkling, undeniably intergalactic, Motor City synths. As it did back in 2001, it comes backed with a fine remix from the late Aaron Carl that successfully re-frames the track as sparse, bouncy chunk of soul-fired peak-time techno.

Review: DJOKO hops back into his Kolter guise after an excellent release on a split EP with Robert James for Body Movement. Now he gets the run of the record on his fourth appearance for Pilot, and he wastes no time in getting the party started with the wiggy breakbeat house trance trip of 'Seducer'. By way of contrast, 'Neintien Eyti' creates a uniquely bubbly kind of happy house with splashes of acid and breakbeat. 'Gifting' strips things back to a cool-headed garage shuffle, and then 'Closing Time' freaks the funk back in once more for some organ-led fun and games.

With the artist willing to take a chance on a new label (usually it's the other way around), he delivers two stonkers; the A-sider is a remix of 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart', while the latter is the real star of the show: a deeper, breakbeat-style version of a lesser-known r&b track, Zhane's 'Sending My Love'.

This new EP kicks off the Sweet N Tasty label and the eagle earned will have no doubt already heard some of the tunes off it, as the DJ has been dropping them in mixes and sets for a while. That has done nothing to loosen their impact with bubbly opener 'One' building on a crisp beat while the bass plunges down low. There is a super sweet and airy vocal to 'Snyders' that tugs at the heart while 'Bad' gets down and dirty, with more pulsing bass and again a superb selection of vocals to add the sweetness. 'Over Here' rounds out with the most physical and raw drum work of the lot.

Opener 'Gemini' is a high speed affair with exotic strings and neck-snapping hits. 'Kilo of Filo' is a super heavy wobbler with a fat as fuck bottom end oscillation. Now he's back with yet another full length, and once again it's packed with heat. There are deep shufflers that nod to the original US garage sound, as well as darker, 2-step tinged get downs. More so than before, there seem to be plenty of reversed bass stabs and MC vocals, old school signifiers and jungle breaks that pay homage to the roots of the sound while never simply copying it. The heart aching vocal of 'Don't Know' is our fave and a likely candidate for one of this summer's standout tunes.

Sky Joose & DJ Perception are two of the scene's finest players and both come through here with a new single each. Sky Joose's 'Skin Teeth' is a dry, stripped back and minimal cut with darkened bass that becomes even more naughty with the Interplanetary Criminal SPZL remix. This one has been produced by former label artist Karma but finds him explore a very different sound with vocals from Sagal. 'Set Me Free' is a deep and smoky house tune with a vocal hook that is full of longing. Review: A new mix from perennial party faves Soul Clap is always a cause for celebration, but there's something extra-special about this particular exercise in dancefloor nostalgia. Nice 'N' Ripe Allstars sees them revisit the bulging back catalogue of Grant Nelson's Nice 'N' Ripe label, an imprint that has tracked the rise, fall and subsequent rebirth of UK garage since its' birth in 1993. Soul Clap's mix - an action-packed 30-track affair featuring some of their own edits and remixes of classic cuts - does a great job in showcasing the best the label has to offer, flitting between early US garage style jams, loose soulful house, sturdy two-step, bass-heavy speed garage and the kind of long-lost jams which should be bitten by today's retro-minded house producers. In doing so, it offers an impeccable history lesson.

Ease Up George - "Criminal" (main Phase 1999 remix) (6:46)
Review: After the third volume back in January, the Practical Rhythm crew don't let up and come on strong with a fourth fine volume. his one opens with a super sweet roller from Herb LF that is packed with soul and cheekiness. K-Lone then packs in more kicks and driving grooves for the more energetic moments in the night and on the flip things take a more minimal and skeletal form with Ease Up George's menacing 'Criminal'. A second mix of this one layers in a naughty bassline that is deep and cavernous. All in all another handy garage EP.

Shastic (5:17)
Myumax (6:43)
Review: IRIS are also known as IRIS Soundsystem, made up of Eric H and DJ Joseph. They recorded a clutch of tunes back in 2000 and 2001 which capture the magic of the UK garage sound in a raw and ruff form, and now they've been unearthed and pressed up by the good folk at Bubblin Fresh. 'One Eye' is a skippy 2-stepper with a nu jazz undercurrent (just check that bassline), while 'Beabay' takes a more melancholic trip through minor Rhodes chords and minimal beats. 'Shastic' has a little more fun with the bass, getting properly wobbly underneath more of those atmospheric keys, and 'Myumax' locks into a spooky little shuffler which fans of El-B should absolutely take note of.

Review: Wobble Boys hail from Buenos Aires but you'd be forgiven for thinking they were rolling out their rudest of tunes from somewhere in the UK. Holding true to the sound they set out on the Time To Wobble EP last year, they're at it again with Wobble Is Back and the basslines just keep getting fatter. Nasty garage beats, mammoth low end, simple leads - there's nothing else you need to make serious dancefloor heat. The pick of the bunch might well be 'Track 2' here, which has a delicious noirish tint to the DX7 organ sounds to get the dance proper moody. Imagine the scenes when these belters drop on the Wobble lads local crew.

Review: Mirrors is Armand Jakobsson aka DJ Seinfeld's first LP release on Ninja Tune. The acclaimed Swedish producer has stated that he wanted to retain a lot of the raw emotionality that brought people to his music in the first place, and is a real statement of where he is as a producer at present. From the pop-inflected breaks of opening cut "She Loves Me" featuring vocalist Stella Explorer, to the deep and emotive mood music served up on "U Already Know" featuring Teira to the glassy-eyed and bittersweet journey into the ethereal that is "These Things Will Come To Be", Jakobsson once again displays his knack for splendid melodies, killer basslines and immaculately programmed rhythms that have been central to his success in recent years.

Marc Cotterell - "C's Groove" (7:16)
Danny J Lewis - "D's Groove" (6:23)
Review: Set your phasers to garage house, because Plastik People are back in action with true believer Marc Cotterell at the helm. The evergreen sound of big, bashy, bumping drums and sweet, soulful organ chords is as vital as ever in Cotterell's hands, and on 'C's Groove' he's flexing some especially funky wandering bass skills to get the party juiced up good and proper. On the flip another Plastik People regular Danny J Lewis is busy bringing a deeper kind of flavour with cool and deadly chord chops which nod to Mood II Swing, albeit with plenty more fizzy FX and sound design tweaks darting around the hard shuffle and MIDI sax parps.
