Feel A Little Strange
Cat: DB 278. Rel: 28 Jun 22
Feel A Little Strange (5:33)
Micro (6:09)
Dwelling (4:56)
Review: 2Phargon is an alias from Lee Mortimer, aka Friend Within, Sawtooth Sucka and many more names. Mortimer's prolific output speaks to his skill in the studio, which is of course why he was picked up by the mighty Dirtybird for this 12" of appropriately quirky groovers catering to the vibe Claude Vonstroke et al have been championing all these years. 'Feel A Little Strange' is a big, bashy rave monster with buzzing rave synths upfront and chunky tech house backbone to the beat, while the vocal sample waves the freak flag high. 'Micro' harks back to the mid 00s minimal sound Dirtybird emerged from, with plenty of playful and heady melodic flourishes to send the vibe skywards.

Cat: COS 007. Rel: 27 Feb 23
Mercury (7:55)
Outer Limits (7:03)
After Life (6:14)
Orbits Theme (6:29)
Review: The 39 Orbits pair of Nick Annies and Twink put out only two releases and they were back in 1993. In the years since though, they have become real digger's delights that now fetch high prices on the second-hand market if and when copies come up. But not anymore - Cosmic Soup has assembled this welcome 180g 12" which features tracks from those original records as well as one previously unreleased cut. 'Mercury' is pure dreamy post-rave prog house, as is the slightly more direct 'Outer Limits.' 'After Life' is high-speed house with lush synth work and 'Orbit's Theme' gets more deep and inwardly reflective.

Review: There's messing about on this fresh 12" from Abdul Raeva, a duo made up of Joonas Arro and Steffan Todorovic. They only debuted last year but have since offered up four EPs on four different labels, each with their own vibe. This one has a bulky old-school rave-house sound to 'Vapordisk' and the and dance floor dynamite keeps on coming with 'Acidflex'. It's 3 am business on 'Vela' - a smooth and cruising groover with nice drum loops and tripped-out breaks close out with 'New Horizons'. Super stuff.

Atlas Corporation EP
Cat: DUALITY 4. Rel: 28 Nov 22
Atlas Corporation (5:59)
Death Race (7:00)
Death Race (Andy Garvey remix) (5:47)
Guardian Of The Vault (5:39)
Review: Atlas Corporation is the fourth EP in the Duality Trax series. Steffan Todorovi? and Joonas Arro are the Adbul Raeva duo behind it and they bring a mix of 90s trance and golden-era prog, Goa and psy-vibes to all four cuts. 'Atlas Corporation' is an expansive and acid laced opener over curing drums and then things get more widescreen and heady with the soft, supple and seductive 'Death Race'. Andy Garvey remixes this one into a more turbulent broken techno workout while closer 'Guardian Of The Vault' casts you adrift in deep space on waves of lush pads and suggestive rhythms.

Inner Zone - "The Vision" (5:23)
Donald's House - "Jam 3" (6:40)
Review: Big hello to new label A Lifetime On The Hips which has a great name and great stamp on this limited edition first 12". It kick off with a various artists affair packed with full flavour cosmic tech. Abdul Raeva opens up with the twinkling melodies and sleek tech drum work of 'Invasive Overdrive Track' then Aldonna's 'Inner Elation' gets more deep with a steamy whispered vocal and shimmering drums. There is more classic sound US house from Demi Riquisimo, lashing of snappy techno from The Vision and bouncy astral house from Donald's House's 'Jam 3'. A great first EP.

Alex Jangle & MatztaM - "Glowbones" (7:04)
Faer - "Serious Repitions" (7:43)
Deadbeat & The Mole - "All Creepy No Sleepy" (5:45)
Review: It is no mean feat to last 10 years no matter your business, but to do so as a record label in this day and age is worthy of maximum respect. Fair play to Det Gode Selskab then for marking the occasion with a tidy new 12" that showcases just what the label is all about. There is chunky tech with grinding bass but lush old school melodies on 'Can't Cure Curiosity' while Alex Jangle & Matztam's 'Glowbones' cuts totally loose on dreamy synth daubs, painterly lines and rubbery house loops. Faer takes a more dark, heads-down path for his spooky 'Serious Repetions' and as you would expect of Deadbeat & The Mole they bring off-kilter loops, unbalanced drums and a ramshackle rhythm that will have you shaking your bones.

Nirvana (5:10)
Panorama (7:28)
The Cure (5:35)
Panorama (We Amps remix) (6:35)
Review: Berlin based label Solenoid is headed up by Erta Ale, aka Italian producer Fabrizio Nocci. His latest release continues the theme of warm, big room house music he's been pushing for some time now, kicking off with the swirling pads and thumping rhythm section of 'Nirvana'. It's got a distinctly early 90s vibe, with plenty of melodic hand holds to dig your fingers into, while 'Panorama' has a swishy, disco-tinted sassiness to take you away in the heat of the night. 'The Cure' kicks off the B side with a springy, techy approach that doesn't hold back on the big synth lines, and then We Amps steps up for a remix of 'Panorama' which keeps things funky without losing that peak time demeanour which persists throughout the record.

Electrified Encounter (6:48)
Review: An unusual side release from Haws Records, based in Cardiff, who have chosen to release 'Sunbeam' by resident producer Anderson - first released on their label compilation Viral Syndicate. Proudly championing the Cardiff dance scene, 11 artists made up this comp: but it's 'Sunbeam' that saw the most love above all. Three more tunes from the artist follow on this EP: 'It's Time' is essentially 'Sunbeam' part 2, while 'Protozoa' homes in on the more scientific elements of future house, and 'Electrified Encounter' slows the pace to backendy extremes.

Review: This acid tech-trance gem was first released in 1996, and first made an appearance on the suitably Star Trek-themed Spock Records, an Italian label that saw to much trance of the utmost quality get released during its Italo heyday. The victim of horrible scalping, it's well overdue for a rerelease. 'Fun-K' is the highlight, showing off producer Bhasmantam's (Gieuseppe Pol's) sensitive and detail-oriented trance production chops, straddling euphoria and technicality in a manner that does not alienate or confuse. The remaining tunes are more breathable and minimal affairs, but all build a world that captivate as they do enthrall.

Review: C.K. is a Danish producer best known for his work in 2 Bit Crew and Regelbau, but he's more recently been focusing on his Private Recording System label, which strides into its ninth release with a little outside input from Ben Boe. C.K. himself leads on the A-side with 'Lock', a solid house-geared workout with plenty of immersive melodic threads tipping the vibe towards the proggy end of things. Meanwhile on the flip Boe's 'Neighbourhood Quasar' gets the remix treatment from C.K., who flips it into a bouncy, 909-powered jam for dancefloor dreamers the world over.

Flotation Agent (7:29)
Irregular Minds (5:57)
Five Atoms (6:45)
Equilibrium (7:03)
Review: Flotation is the sole aim of Cosmic G & Laars' latest EP - if there's anything that evokes the feeling of floating in dance music, it's gated heavenly vocals. That's exactly what we're met with on the opening title track here; flights of angels sing us to our unrest, as we duly float upwards beyond the stratosphere and party with our maker outside the pearly gates. It's a theme that is carried throughout the EP, a slinky and 'amphibian' acid house EP if we were to say anything otherwise about it. Progressively, things get deeper and darker, save for the breaks closer 'Equilibrium', which more or less evokes the feeling of flying back down to Earth on the back of a magic orca.

Again That Feeling (7:12)
The Quiet Before The Storm (7:48)
Review:  Romanian Favourite Costin Rp steps up the small but well formed Animal Crossing label with a special three tracker that comes on slick blue marled vinyl. 'Once Upon A Time In The West' is a brain cleaning minimal tune with warped tones and silky sine waves weaving their way into the deepest corners of your mind. The clean and abstract sounds continue on 'Again That Feeling' which has superb boucle in the kicks and nice bendy synths bringing and elastic sense of groove. '

The Quiet Before The Storm' then cuts loose on trippy late night melodic motifs, with ricocheting hits and days of synth colours that rise and fall like a lava lamp.

Due to Anthony being an integral contributor to the music of Overlords of the UFO, the four tracks maintain the trademark retro analogue sci-fi vibe of Overlords of the UFO, although with a more contemporary edge.

Eliaz - "Spaceventura" (6:40)
Estef - "Roto" (6:01)
Buraye - "Towering Vortex" (7:17)
Nay - "Moon" (6:51)
Review: 'The Judge's Head' is sure to turn heads; this is a spooky throng of dry, ana-lectro chuggers, designed to both to sonically inebriate and sober up, depending on the time of day. With an array of producers from all over the globe, hailing from such nations as Uruguay and Slovenia, plenty of bangers ensue after whacking this one on the turntable. Estef's 'Roto' is a gothic electroclash-dungeony tune with long synths undercutting its main melody, sounding like synthy replications of a wolf's howl. Nay's 'Moon' runs it up, with knocky basses and nervous synths zooming overhead. Wonky, persistent, naughty.

It became an instant Ibiza classic as soon as it landed back in 1992 and has remained that way ever since. Now we get an equally vital part of trance music history - the one and only Paul Van Dyk - serving up his own new XOYO remix. It's a subtle tweak that brings more texture to the timeless original while emo techno pair Tale of Us blast in some white noise and bass rumbles to up the ante further for main room deployment.

Review: Sweden-based newcomer Eric OS takes the reins for the latest offering from EYA Records. It's another EP with which the label showcases a fine array of new and up-and-coming talents. All four cuts are well-designed electronic house tunes with plenty of character. 'Spellbound' opens with off-grid hist and a nice drunken rhythm overlaid with lush tones. 'The Machine' has super fresh synth work that is bright and a little trippy over nice stepping bass. 'Closer' picks up the party with much punchy drum programming and 'Maraton' rounds out with some soft acid and far-sighted cosmic vibes.

Eric's releases on System Error, Eya Records and Space Trace caught the label's attention after hearing his tracks at Nostromo Festival. Lewis, head of Data Flow, brings his analogue soundscapes. 'Eden' (A1) fills the dancefloor with endless grooves and dreamy pads. 'Timebomb' (A2) takes the vibe higher with proggy melodies and solid drum patterns. 'Project Mayhem' (B1) hypnotises with its groove, while 'Acid44' seals the EP with infectious synths, snappy snares and a powerful bassline.

Review: As you will well know if you are reading this, prog house is back and it has been for ages. As always with any revival, there is good stuff and weak stuff. This EP is very much the corner from Forces of Nature, with authentic 90s soundscapes mixing up lush ambient synth designs, dreamy Italo drums and real musical depth. 'Jupiter' is super smooth and seductive as it cruises at high altitude, then 'Tripping' is a downbeat workout and 'The Bomb' takes you to the heavens on gorgeous melodies while the bass plunges low. 'In Your Mind' is perfectly comedown music to close the EP in style.

Review: '90s label Air Trance communication made a comeback in February this year by reissuing some cuts from Italian legend Francesco Farfa, whose career has spanned over 30 years. They went down well with new school connoisseurs and now get backed up with another gem from the man as well as a couple of remixes. 'Laser Beam' is vivid cosmic techno with smeared synths, vocal samples and chunky drums locking you into the groove as mad melodies rain down. Alex Neri remixes it into a more smooth and silky techno bumper and the MIKI Rmx brings raw percussion and alien life forms to the mix.

Anonymous (7:26)
Review: Tel Aviv-born producer and DJ Guy J returns with two key pieces, State Of Trance and Anonymous, for Lost & Found. Paying direct homage to the hypnotic oeuvre of early trance classics, both tracks here lay down a sweet, burgeoning mood of entrainment - the breakdown on the A-side removes the kick drum halfway, locking in a rhythmic nerviness that many trance artists would be afraid of indulging. Meanwhile, the B-sider mires arpy rapture in loud textures of wind and thunder, dropping out most of its elements into a ghostly, gargantuan haze before dropping them back into a minimal, gobby drop.

Review: Melodic progressive house is lended an extra twinkly resonance on this new one from Guy J, topping up his myriad releases for Lost & Found Records.
