Money Money (2:37)
Money Money (version) (3:01)
Review: Horace Andy is one of the most recognisable voices - and names - in reggae. His catalogue is a real treasure trove of gold and 'Money Money' from 1982 is always one of the most heavily played. Of course one of the reasons it is so well known is because it is the source of a legendary sample by Massive Attack on one of their earlier records. The lyrics, about money being the root of all evil, will forever remain relevant, as will the sounds around them. The version is longer and just as essential.

Lay Down Your Arms
Lay Down Your Arms (3:05)
Lay Down Your Arms (version) (3:12)
Review: Although original copies are hard to find, Wes Brooks' 1977 single 'Lay Down Your Arms' is fairly well-known in reggae circles and was even covered by Mark Stewart on his 1983 album Learning To Cope With Cowardice. If you don't already own a copy of Brooks' classic, we'd highly recommend this reissue. In its original form, the track is a sweet, organ-heavy chunk of roots reggae/soul fusion that sounds as special today as it did in the late 1970s. The accompanying dub-style 'Version' mix is also incredible thanks to Brooks' decisions to amplify the bass, toughen up the drums and add copious amounts of reverb and delay to snippets of organ and vocal.

Review: During last year's lockdown in Italy, contemporary dub producer Paolo Baldini was invited by Pressure Sounds to work on Bunny Lee's archive of recordings he made with singer Barry Brown during the mid-to-late 1970s. The results can now be heard on Praises, a set which adds a little more dub-wise spice to classic roots reggae cuts while retaining much of Lee's production and instrumentation. Brown's vocals - effortlessly soulful, hugely evocative and partially improvised - are simply superb, while Baldini's handling of Lee's riddims and musical arrangements is masterful. As a result, the assembled dubs, versions and vocal reworks sound faithful to the period in which they were recorded while adding subtle new touches and 21st century-ready low-end weight.

Lacksley Castell - "What A Great Day" (4:01)
Prince Jammy - "Throne Of Blood" (3:12)
Review: Lacksley Castell's 'What A Great Day' is something of a roots reggae classic that has been long hard to find after first dropping back in 1979. It still spuds fresh and will pack a punch on any sound system. Prince Jammy is a master of mixing this sort of stuff who later went on to be a big player in the dancehall game having eventually ditched his analogue tools in favour of digital ones. His dub 'Throne of Blood' is on there flip to round out another brilliant 45rpm from VP, who are masters of just that.

Dillinger, real name Lester Bullock, is a prolific reggae artist from Jamaica. He was part of the second wave of DJ 'toasters' who rose to prominence during the mid '70s. He continued to record and perform, his last tour was in 2014 with Yellowman. His classic from 1978 'Dread No Warrior' originally appeared on the Gorgon label. With its classic roots reggae swagger, you can hear why this one is a favourite with the heads out there. Typically, there's a dub version over on the flip. Bullock was also known for starting his own label called Scandal Bag.

Review: After dropping many crucial dub albums on the likes of Twinkle Records, Music House Family, Reggae On Top, King Earthquake, and Conscious Sounds, Barry Issac now brings his brilliant vocal tones to Room In The Sky. Issac is well established as a top roots reggae talent who has worked with some of the most notable sound systems out there - Jah Shaka and Channel One being two of them. Here 12 tough riddims featuring some top talents like reggae trombonist Vin Gordon from the Skatalites and Winston Reedy who fronted The Cimarons get finished in style by his work up top. A timeless album for sure.

Review: Since releasing her debut album in 2013, Janine 'Jah9' Cunningham has risen to become one of the genuine underground stars of Jamaican reggae music, with a distinctive vocal style - part singer, part toaster, part spoken word beat poet - that seems to suit a wide variety of reggae-related styles. She's at her diverse best on "Note To Self", singing and toasting over backing tracks that variously touch on contemporary reggae, 1970s roots, dub, dancehall and the kind of digital 'riddims' that were all the rage in the late 1980s and early '90s.

Ritchie McDonald & Glen Brown - "Realize" (3:53)
Tommy McCook - "Determination Skank" (3:40)
Review: This 7" packs two heavyweight punches. First up Glenn Brown and Ritchie Mcdonald's 'Realize' is a deep roots nugget and an immortal jam that really hits a sweet spot. The loose drums, stoned vocals and swaggering bass are dusty reggae perfection that immediately take you to warmer climates. On the back side, 'Determination Skank' is a horn heavy dub that gets you banging your chest and losing to the skies. This is a limited, one-time press so it won't be around for long - dub heads will need to act fast.

Review: In 1985, Lee 'Scratch' Perry returned to Trojan Records for a new album, Battle Of Armageidon, in which he laid freshly-trodden musical ground at the label's feet. Taking after then increasingly-popular dub and reggae artists at the time, such as Scientist, Perry's music was becoming increasingly grandiose and psychedelic, having teamed up with rhythm guitarist and synth player Mark Downie in forming his new band. Long regarded as among Perry's most wild and unpredictable projects, this reissue brings the album to CD for the first time, and isn't for the faint of heart or uncurious of soul.

Review: Lee Perry's classic "Disco Devil" series on Studio 16 returns with another choice selection of mixes from his famous Black Ark Studio during the years 1977, '78 and '79. Thanks to his ubiquitous "Police And Thieves", Junior Murvin became one of the most recognisable names in dub. His iconic falsetto voice appears here twice, firstly on the gently swaying deepness of opener "Cross Over" before closing out with the supple rhythms of "Memories" on the flip. There's also spaced out stuff from Twin Roots, slow motion rocksteady from Watty Burnett and Michael Campbell's excellent "Schoolgirl" in between to make this another fine package.

Prince Jammy - "Brothers Of The Blade" (3:26)
Review: VP have got some special and long-lost roots reggae classics here on 45rpm for the first timer in forever. The A-side here first dropped in 1979 and was recorded at Channel One, mixed at King Tubby's and produced by Prince Jammy not one before he went digital - something of a holy trinity of top-class reggae quality. The original is full of proper good and authentic dub flavour with fat bass and smoky atmospheres. Prince Jammy's own superb dub cut features on the flipside which is full of his usual mixing desk magic.

Review: "Me used to record every day in the 70s. Sometimes 7 days a week, day and night inna the studio." The words of Bunny Lee there, who built up a hugely impressive discography not only in terms of its size, but also its quality. This new double LP collects together all the rare and unreleased cuts from his archives which will make it feel like you're right there with him in one of his legendary recording sessions. All the legends are present and correct, too, with Linval Thompson, Jony Clarke, Jah Smile and plenty more coming up with real gold.
