Since then he has turned out plenty of new material as well as digging deep into his vast and vital vaults to serve up the sort of lo-fi but kicking house sounds that made him and his Nottingham crew such a driving force back in the 90s. And that's what we get here on For Those That Knoe - no fewer than eight masterfully stripped-back cuts of deep house. Some are laced with dreamy melodies, some roll deep for days, some are raw and textured pumpers and some are jazzed-up bangers with charm to spare. Essential stuff.

Review: Lisbon-based Frenchman Brawther, who is also one-half of Dungeon Meat for more raw grooves, shows off his mastery of deep house on this fresh new EP for B2 Recordings. 'Sundials' (feat Nathan Haines) immediately soothes the soul with its lunging chords and seductive sax lines. Occasional female coos add further lushness to this most heartwarming of tunes. 'Second Nature' has a little more height and drive to it but again the drums are warm and fuzzy, the chords smeared in artful ways and the overall vibe utterly heady. Last of all is the bubbly and dubby 'Gotta Let It Go' with its bottomless depths and chords that melt off into an infinite horizon. Gorgeous stuff from this always quality artist.

Review: Six new tracks from Detroit's deep house hero Theo Parrish mark his most significant release since the Wuddadji album three years ago, based around the 18 minute dancefloor epic 'Dance Alone' and the Afro-slanted 'Cleo's Theme', closing in on 11 minutes, alongside a host of other cuts of varying sizes and types. 'Real Deal', for instance, is a beatless instrumental interlude consisting of organ and Spanish guitar, while the title track is nearly all off-kilter beats. Parrish's approach, as ever, is soulful and funky enough to keep house fans on side, while also being so raw and stripped down that techno fans love it too and this has plenty of both.

Review: It's taken a while, but finally Chiwax has repressed their 2014 reissue of Ron Trent's brilliant 1992 EP 'Love Affair', which on its initial release was officially the Chicagoan's follow-up to his peerless debut, 'Altered States'. All six mixes from the original 12" are present in remastered form. Four of these come from Trent himself: the wonderfully warming, sparkling and starry 'Ron Soulful Mix' (which some would argue provided a blueprint for his later work with Chez Damier), the stripped-back and sub-heavy 'Bass Shaker Mix', the riff-driven joyousness of the 'Underground Mix' and the sleazy, sub-heavy and alien-sounding 'Beatnik Mix'. The remaining mixes are by 'executive producer' Braxton Holmes: the dense, breathless and sweaty '326 Mix' and the classic Chicago deepness of the 'Smooth Mix'.

Review: Legendary minimal - and acid house before that - pioneer Baby Ford very much set the blueprint for the genre back in the late 90s, both solo and with The Ifach Collective, who featured Ian Loveday, Mark Broom and Thomas Melchior (amongst others). Now they are reminding us of the greatness of that work with the first in a series of reissues coming in 2023. These tunes were originally put out back on the legendary Klang Elektronik in 2000. First up is 'Tea Party' by Eon, M-Core, and Baby Ford, an ice-cold rolling dub. 'On The Floor' with Mark Broom gets more percussive and then comes a solo cut from Baby Ford, 'The Healing' which is as heady as can be and finally 'Word For Word' featuring Cheru Amadi layers up slithers of silvery percussion and cuddly bass into dubbed-out tech heaven.

Review: Having released a swathe of killer re-edits by Rahaan, it's little surprise to find Hot Biscuit Recordings serving up his new original production, albeit on a new sub-label, Yellow Taxi Records. 'I Need You' was written by the track's featured artist, soulful vocalist Kihmy, and is presented in three contrasting forms. On the A-side, Rahaan explores the house side of his musical identity, first wrapping Kihmy's vocal, suspenseful keyboard melodies and gorgeous proto-house stabs around an addictive, effects-laden bassline and jacking drum machine beats on the '86 House Mix', before going darker and more psychedelic on the TB-303-powered 'Acid Mix'. As good as they are, the most joyous mix of all resides on side B: the 'Soul Mix', which offers a warmer, mid-tempo, disco-influenced interpretation full to bursting with luscious live instrumentation.

Review: The Global North label is run by a lad from Liverpool who cut his teeth in Leeds before making the tried and tested move to Berlin a number of years ago. He's made it stick, too, and is now emerging as a producer and label A&R with a sound as unique as his DJ sets. He works as DJ Pipe and this new EP finds him link up with Tasso across four sublime sounds. It is minimal and tech but full-blooded stuff with fleshy synths, cosmic pads and fat bass that makes dance floors bounce. The highlight here is the deep and slinky sound of 'Moonshine', a quality bit of teshno if ever we heard it.

First up he layers a classic Hot Chocolate sample over a rolling and rubbery beat and bassline that will pump any dancefloor. Review: Well, well, well, we didn't expect this one: Radio Slave in piano house mode. The man who has made a career off dark, rolling, wall-rattling and proudly linear techno releases on his mighty Rekids label shows a totally different but equally essential side here. 'Strobe Queen' is a slow burning, slow-release pleasure built on low-slung mid-tempo drums and overlaid with glorious piano chords that speak of joy and happiness. Eric Kupper removes a little of the polish, ups the dust and adds his own vocal mutterings over the top for something more zoned out.

Review: For those who like their dance music “naive” (but also charmingly more talent-packed than might first meet the ear), the Seance Centre sublabel Mixed Signals will always have you covered. MS’s focus is on reissuing mega-obscure experimental dance music curios. Their efforts are so meticulous that, on listening to this new reissue of Litia Loe’s ‘Life Love Dance’, we had a sneaking suspicion that this was one of their releases before checking the database and confirming it to be true (yes, we tend to press play first thing, in order to mitigate bias). Litia Loe, still going strong, are a Chicago-based trio made up of members Grant, Leon and Simeon. Their music is of the core-nourishing, live, deep soulful house variety; nailing this is their originally second release here, which originally came as a CD in 1998. Laid-back, watery, drum-machinic moods waft amid soulful, muted vocals and melodic stringy lilts - all the band’s members sing passionately, of both ubiquitous and rare spiritual goings-on.

Review: This double 12" compilation between Brazilian duo Stekke and producer and DJ Max Underson is a perfect marriage between the emotional aesthetic background of Underson's previous works and the precise floor-filling formula that Stekke has devised. The minimal composition is at the crossroads between deep, acid and tech house, with the wet basslines of 'The Messenger' being paired with ritualistic sub-bass lines culminating in house heaven. A real highlight on this release is side 4's 'Guidance', a smooth, grooving track that goes to show that house tracks don't always have to be cramped to the brim. The negative space used in these tracks, and the way it's used, is an art. Not to turn a blind eye to the two unique remixes on the compilation either, which take tracks to new heights thanks to the abstract re-imaginings by XDB and Melchior Productions Ltd. Universal Law is a schooling in the ways of minimal house, take notes.

Review: A case of things turning full circle if ever there was one, as Rolo McGinty of The Woodentops fame - the indie stars who discovered raving and then featured on the very first Balearic Beats collection - teams up with Coyote for a one sided 12" for Is It Balearic. Well, if this isn't, then nothing is! The title should be a clue to its sentiments, paying homage to the laughing herb that is 'Marijuana' and in particular, partaking in its delights in the shade on a hot day. McGinty delivers a deep, resonant vocal, Micko Roche handles the guitars - inclusign some particularly cool acoustic strumming - while the Coyote boys do the slow motion beat shuffling. Review: A choice selection of four deep. sultry floorfillers from four different artists across this new 12" from 124 Recordings. 'Come To Me' by Chris Fry heads up the selection with sturdy four-to-the-floor foundations hinting a original US garage vibes, all embellished with classy, oozing strings and a stickier-than-gum vocal refrain. Heat Alliance's '74 Streets' is a tad slower and dubbier and as its title suggests, revels in its rude funk and sparkly disco influences processed through some subtly modern filtering action. 'Amsterdam' from Kit Mason combines tripper FX with an irresistible, chunky groove, reminiscent of the soulful delirium of Felix da Housecat's finer moments, while 'Bit Mania' by Nicola Brusegan draws proceedings to a close with a celebratory, summer-slanted slice of uplift built around a nifty 70s-style funky guitar lick. Lots of variety, but everything here is going to get feet headed towards the dancefloor without doubt.

Review: For the label's latest on-point reissue, Groovin' Records has delved into the slim catalogue of short-lived Italian production duo Soft House Company. Originally released in 1990 and a dancefloor smash all over Europe, 'What U Need' is typical of loved-up Italian house of the period - all life-affirming piano stabs, tactile synth-bass, occasional synth-strings, rolling drum machine beats and cut-up vocal snippets from First Choice's much-sampled disco classic 'Let No Man Put Asunder'. Review: Two years ago, UK techno mainstay Gabriel made his bow on Rawax's Motor City Edition series with an EP of cuts drawn from his seemingly endless archive of unreleased gems. We're not sure whether the four tracks on this belated sequel are old and new, but they're certainly timeless-sounding and impressively deep. Check first 'Mordax', an impeccable mixture of Motor City star-gazing and analogue deep house blessed with a ridiculously good bassline, before admiring the sun-splashed warmth of 'The Multicoloured Mind', where jazzy piano motifs, sustained synth-strings and warming chords dance atop a loose-limbed house-not-house beat. Review: UK tech house legend Mark Ambrose is now back with a third volume of his The Journey series on Richard Davis' reissue label Repeat. The revered veteran crafted plenty of the genre's best and most unique sounds and you can revisit three of them now. 'Acid' is a slow, deep and meandering monster with rubbery bass and undulating 303 lines. 'The Ghoulash Monster From Outer Space' is a more dark and tribal, chunky and sci-fi sound with rich sound designs and eerie atmospheres and '5 AM' closes on a serene deep tech groove. Ricardo Villalobos, Sonja Moonear and Marcel Dettmann are just some of the names who have played these jams over the years, which is a testament to their quality.

'Keep Me Satisfied' is a superb opener with effortlessly cool and deep house grooves and sweet vocals from Reda. 'The Way I Live' gets even more steamy and deep with jazzy chords and another lung-busting vocal to really make sure the party kicks off. 'Passion Rhythms' features Janelle on the vocals and builds another sweaty but sensuous vibe and 'Can You Understand My Groove' is a clean, effective weapon to close.

Review: Curated By Time has taken a deep dive into the back catalogue of UK tech-house pioneer – and Crayon label founder – Mark Ambrose. Lifeforms Volume 1 was first released way back in 1998 and in recent years has become an in-demand item amongst crate-digging, dusty-fingered DJs. It remains one of Ambrose’s most alluring EPs. Check first ‘Untitled 1’, a deeply spacey slab of intergalactic sci-fi techno underpinned by pitched-up house beats, before admiring the deep, dubby sub bass, mind-mangling noises and hypnotic house beats of ‘Untitled 2’. B-side ‘Untitled 3’, meanwhile, is a fantastic example of early UK tech-house in its pures form: all sci-fi synth sounds, undulating bass, crunchy house drums and the dreamiest of pads.

Review: Instant Match kicked off with an instantly good first EP all the way back in April of last year. Finally, the label follows it up with a second tasteful house offering that mixes up some drums to make you move with nice deep chord work bathed in synths that speak of a warm glowing sunset. That's the case on 'Sweet Dance' anyway, with its balmy and breezy feel, then 'Try Again' brings a seductive and heavily treated female vocal that land in deadpan but steamy fashion over more neon pads and late-night house vibes. 'Pepper Sequence' ups the ante a touch and 'Hibiki Shot' rounds out with some nice cyborg house funk.
